In more ways than one!
Considering they're asking CHF $1,200 for the thing!

Love the Mondaine on the train platform! And >>>
if there's ANYBODY that could pull of carrying that knife, it's you.

Well, I appreciate your confidence.
However, Bro. wodo is right. The thing is far too ungainly to be practical. Obviously it's a conversation piece / collectible that they built simply because they could.

I really DID get a new Swiss Army Knife.
Just not that one.
Decided
on that as a souvenir vs. a watch. I told myself that if I could find a
watch that moved me for US $500 or less (roughly CHF 410) I'd go for
it. Alas, the least-expensive watch I've found so far that speaks to me,
a Tissot chrono with the C01.211 movement, was tagged at CHF 930
(roughly US $1,134). I can get the same watch online for just under US $600.
Watches are very expensive here. All watches. Fossils start at CHF 179, for crying out loud!
To
put it in a way that me American brothers will more readily understand:
Here in Zermatt a Big Mac, medium fries and coke will set you back CHF
12.90 (which includes an extra .20 CHF for the ketchup ). That's roughly US $15.73!

As there is no longer any money in your pocket
Right. CHF 1,200 is one RMW pocket knife indeed!

mcbroom.biz is not serving the pictures. There is one train service matter that I found better on Amtrak >>>
and that does not exist on the SBB (Swiss Federation Railway)... the
train conductor on the Amtrak from Washington to New York saw that we
were about to nod off and he came to our seats and said "your final stop
is in ca. 30 minutes". I found that very helpful.
I have also to
mention, that the SBB did not always had that great a customer service.
30 years ago, the train conductors were rather "rough". That all
changed in the mid 90ies when "service mindedness" was introduced with
great success. Also the new ticketing system introduced in the late
80ies, made a huge difference.
Today the service and punctuality are phenomenal.

station of my hometown? Is he trying to fall onto the tracks?

Agreed. The conductor and other personnel were very
attentive on the Glacier Express. The conductor came around 3 or 4
times to ask if everything was OK. Also, the train makes several stops,
"express" or no. He knew I was getting off at the stops to have a smoke,
and was careful to let me know exactly how much time I'd have. Very much appreciated, as getting left behind would not have been a Good Thing!

I sure did. I recalled..
..that Chur was your hometown because you mentioned it in the "how to pronounce Reto" thread recently.
BTW, there is also a Reto at Monnier-Zahner AG. One Reto Jungi, the Machine Development Engineer. Great fellow! That now makes three Retos I'm acquainted with though, of course, I've only had the good fortune to meet two personally. Perhaps we'll remedy that someday...

I did not realize until this trip..
..that "Reto" is of Romansh extraction. And that, indeed, the sub-family of the language spoken in Switzerland is called, phonetically, "Reto Romansh" (Rhaeto-Romance languages).
You really do learn something new everyday.
Reto Jungi told me that "Reto" is a "farm country" name. IOW a "redneck name", sort of like "Bubba" in Mississippi.

Oh, I'm an old hand at this. You could..
..drop me in the middle of Fum Bucked, Egypt and, while I ain't sayin' there wouldn't be a contretemps (or three ), I am expert at solving such trivial annoyances and, on the whole I'd get along A-OK.

I picked a much smaller of these, still useable. This one is purely for exhibition and collectors >>>
Victorinox (owns Wenger) should make these in maybe 5 or 6 detachable units. So you could just "pull out" the part you need.
