A Mini- of a brand worthy of WIS Consideration : S.U.G. -Date >>>>>>

You might remember my post the other day. Please go here if you missed it. [drums desk with fingers, Checks watch] Don't worry, I'll wait..
OK, welcome back. I picked up the watch this morning (the USPS tried to deliver Saturday, but I missed 'em ), and have been wearing it most of the day. Once again, I've gotta say that I'm impressed! The packaging is not quite as elaborate as the Rousseau Cantata (and no instruction sheet or warranty card), but that's no deal breaker for me. Crucially, the 4F (Fit Finish Feel Factor) level is just as good as the Rousseau, if not better. Which is to say that it's in a class with 's best - world class bang-for-the-buck excellent, IOW! Again, I reckon I done good for me hard-earned dollar! (US $54.16 shipped)
'tis quite a straightforward piece, using the 28-jewel TY-2714 . This gives you a pointer date at 2 (advanced by the pinhole pusher also at 2), sub-seconds at 6, and power reserve indicator at 10.
Please click photo for Supersize version This one easily passes the loupe inspection, too. I used 5x and 10x loupes, and the level of detail is superlative. The dial's crisp and clean - no ragged edges anywhere. Likewise a thorough inspection through the well-executed display back reveals that 'tis a "clean build", no stray dust bunnies to be seen.
'scuse, please. The color is quite hard to capture. I swear it's not Salmon! It's more of a Peaches 'n' Cream thing... Sorry P12! I was initially lukewarm to the bezel. The style says "rotating", but it is in fact a fixed bezel. I'm not enamored of Purely Decorative Complications, but in this case it works OK. Likewise I wasn't sure how the knurled Lug Nuts would come off in person. No worries there, though, as they're well done & I likes 'em! Indeed, these two elements just might combine to make a plus; looked at one way the styling is a hodge-podge, looked at another it has at least the potential for the versatility to handle a wide range of strap/bracelet combos. For instance, in addition to a leather strap, I believe it's Milwatch enough for a NATO, Diver enough for a rubber strap, and Tool Watch enough for a non-tapered SS bracelet.
One area where the S.U.G. definitely outstrips the Rousseau is the laser-etching on the rotor. VERY nicely done! I'm not sure I could top it, Laser-Etching Guru in my professional life or no. And while it's a much, much closer call, I believe the Côtes de Genève finish on the bridges & rotor is more finely wrought than on the Rousseau.
One happy surprise is that, Wonder Of Wonders, once again I get a Long strap which actually fits me! The strap is of quite a high grade, too, and is imprinted with a large "SUG" logo on the inner liner. Unlike the Rousseau, though, there's no 'CHINA' imprint.
Yes, I'll have to do my Standard Strap Farkle (drill a new 1st hole & remove the fixed keeper)...
..that's obvious. Damned thang ain't pullin' it's weight there, all I'm sayin', Bubba. But I will be able to use the S.U.G.-branded buckle.
So. Executive Summary. (And yeah, I know that Executive Summaries are supposed to come at the begining. Know what I say? Screw executives! )
