Allow me to carp a bit about my latest acquisition. >

You might recall that I made this statement: "Things I don't like about it; Nothing so far!" Well, we all know there's no such thing a a Perfect Watch, so I was bound to find something sooner or later. Turns out it was sooner..
The Rousseau Cantata... In short, no . Not weak lume, but NO lume. Zip. Nada. Zero.
I know this'd be a deal-breaker for some. But I subsribe to the ChrisL School Of Thought On Lume - "Do it right, or don't do it at all". And I tend to think of
as an option for a dress watch. Indeed, I didn't even notice the
absence of lume at first, probably for that reason. So it's no big
deal. But it is a minor disappointment.

See it? No?
OK, count down the hours. 1-2-3-4-5-6.. and 6 again? WTF?!
I don't know what to make of this. My opinion of Rousseau has went way down, I can tell you that! It wouldn't be so bad, but the auction photos clearly..
..were misleading as .
[sigh]
I dunno. 'twas the movement that attracted me to this one is the first
place. Had half an idea to mod it, anyway. I think that possibility
just became a LOT more likely.
And, hey, this makes it a collector's item, right? Kinda like ChrisL's 'Misfit Wenger'.
Yeah, that's the ticket!

And, yeah, I have no trouble believing your story 'bout the Misfit . Shoot, I've been wearing this thing a LOT, for more than a WEEK, and I just now noticed.
With
Arabic numerals, the error would be glaring. But I guess with Roman
numerals, I tend to treat them as generic markers, and go by the
position and not the actual value. Since my original post here had 160+
hits and no one spotted it, I think that's true for most folks.

Chris L -- Monday, 25 August 2008, at 5:09 p.m.
I read theories about how
it balances the dial to look better, but I think it is just that there
was no standardized way to write "four" in the middle ages with roman
numerals, and different localities starting using "IIII". Clocks were
made with the wrong number, and it simply became the way to do it as
time went by.
Kind of like the proper way to write 1,000 is with a comma, but it is often omitted for a 4-digit number.

your sixes to make it a Full House Watch.
