Day 2 update on the CEM58002DW

A couple of things, bad news first; I am totally underwhelmed by the lume. It's not very bright and, worse, fades very quickly. Not a deal-breaker, but a bit discouraging, nevertheless. Heck, this is quite an expensive watch, by my personal standards (believe it or not, the $106.95 shipped price puts it in the Top Five of my Most Expensive Watches. 5th, yeah.. but still Top Five ). So I expected more, lots more.. I mean, come on;
..that's pathetic! By way of comparison, I used identical lume-charging and camera settings on this shot;
Click the foto for All You Ever Wanted To Know About Ricky's Watch, But Were Afraid To Ask Bear in mind that, despite the custom-machined case and the beaucoup man-hours involved in it's fabrication, that watch is - at it's core - an under-$10 Beggar Man's Watch from Wal-Mart and.. well, you see my point. lume gets an emphatic .
On a happier note, I've found the watch to be eminently wearable, even with the slightly-tight bracelet. This was a concern as, at 44mm it's a quite a bulky watch - it's 'all dial' appearance makes it wear even bigger that what it is! And at 99.7 grams, it's not exactly a featherweight, or no. But it works fine. Once I get an extra link installed, I reckon it'll be the bee's knees in the comfort and wearability department.
Seems to be quite an eye-catcher, too, as it got two favorable comments at work yesterday, and another today. One co-worker dubbed it "The Nerd Watch", after I explained the sliderule function. Now, granted these are folks who are familiar with.. err, my affinity with watches. One bloke in particular makes it a semi-regular part of his daily routine to scope out what watch I'm wearin', and never fails to notice a new one. Still nice to get a compliment, though (I think "Nerd Watch" is a compliment. Least I took it as such. ). So for the 'Wrist Presence' factor.
The accuracy seems very good, though it seems quite a bit more erratic than the average watch. I set it at 17:00 Monday evening, and have been checking it at regular intervals. It works out like this;
- (05:00 Tuesday) -4 sec after 12 hours
- (17:00 Tuesday) +8 sec after 24 hours
- (05:00 Wednesday) +3 sec after 36 hours
- (17:00 Wednesday) +12 sec after 48 hours
The trend's obvious. It seems to run a tad slow when off the wrist overnight (it was on my nightstand, crown up), then a tad fast when actively worn.
Not a concern, as I know that a bit of irregularity is normal. And this averages out to +6/day, which is darned good out-of-the-box, I reckon. So accuracy gets a .
All in all, still
I love this watch!

Yeah, I'm not overly bothered by the poor lume either. I'm with Stef - it's such a great watch otherwise that it's easy to overlook that small deficiency.
} I'm always asleep when it's dark.
Yep!
Speaking of 'Older models'.. do you have any idea when this model was discontinued? It apparently has been discontinued, as it's no longer listed on Orient's web site...

It's so weak, that they could have just made the hands and markers all one color and not bothered with lume paint.
I almost didn't buy my diver because of that lume experience. I'm happy that the diver has lume almost on par with most watches.
BTW, you have snail mail on the way tonight.
Good to know that I'm not alone.. thought maybe I just got a bad one. And good to know that lume is better!

, good sir!
Oh, and Colby, you have snailmail incoming, too..

This is the 11th day straight that I've worn it!
Sliderule CEM58002DW After 11 days it checks +43 seconds, for an average of juuuuuust under +4 sec/day. Impressive!
So have I reached ? Well.. NAH! My recent posts about the Dolphin got me kinda fired up about it, and I wore it for a few hours last evening. But when it came time to don a watch this morning, though I tried to grab something else, my hand was drawn irresistibly to the .
Ah well..

I have the gray dial and love it
I wear mine quite often to work and get a lot of ribbing about it, "computer nerd" (I am the sys admin at our school), "why are you wearing a dinner plate on your wrist?", "do you know how to use that slide rule?" (of course I do ) etc.Everyone at work now regularly checks my wrist to see what I am wearing as I am a known WIS. The only ones that get much comment are the Ti Slide rule, my Nighthawk, and my Marina Militare ("why do you have a clock on your wrist?").
Cheers, Griff

I get that, too.
One fellow, in particular. His day just ain't complete unless he checks out my watch.
He's a semi-WIS himself, and claims to own "about a dozen" watches. Mind you, I've only seen three; a kinda diver-styled Bulova Accuquartz, a 7T62-based chrono that's pretty much the twin of mine, only SS-cased and white-dialed. Perhaps the coolest, though, is his beater, a ca. 2001 (he says it's "about 5 years old") Expedition the likes of which I've never seen before. Sorta style.. hard to describe. I should borrow it and take some s!
The unseen watches are old heirlooms that don't even run, mostly, but that he still can't bear to part with (Sounds like a WIS to me! ). The exception is some sort of gold-cased dress watch that he, apparently, will not wear unless he's also wearin' a tux. I've asked him to bring it to work & show me - nagged hime, even - but it's just totally out of the question, it seems. No tux, no I know it's not a Museum, his description tells me that much.. one o' these days I'm gonna go knock on his door and DEMAND to see the thing.
} my Marina Militare ("why do you
} have a clock on your wrist?").I've heard that, too, but only a few times about the MM's..
Click the fotos for more info ..usually this is the one that elicits the "Dang! That's one big ol' watch!!" comment;
One 60+ year-old eyesight-challenged co-worker tried to buy it right off me wrist..
