..the black Combat NATO. Smile

And one correction - this watch is actually 44.25mm, not the 46mm I previously reported. Blushing Yeah, yeah, I was guessing earlier. Seems my Calibrated Eyeball might be in need of recalibration. Oops! In my defense, the "all dial" nature of the design makes it seem a tad bigger'n it really is.

The requisite accuracy report.. I am happy to inform that it's running well within COSC specs! Clapping! I synched it to the Atomic Clock 7 days back, when I re-entered the Central timezone and, as of right now it checks +26 sec. We'll be conservative and call it +4 sec/day. Thumbs up!

One small confession, too. While it works Grrrrrrrrr8! on a NATO, IMHO, I kinda sorta wish I'd got the bracelet version. Frowning Options are always good, and as far as I can tell the OEM street price between leather and steel is a mere ~ $100. However, while I haven't yet summoned the guts to inquire, I've got a sneaking suspicion that an OEM bracelet will set me back several times that much, if purchased à la carte. Eek!

And speaking of not having the guts to inquire.. well, another photo first:

WIS Honeymoon

But, the "guts" part. Sure, me Inner Scotsman has been torturing me, speculating on how good a deal I really got on this piece. I mean, the conventional wisdom is that, while Caribbean Watch Shopping will yield a great selection, the prices are actually a bit higher than can be had by a savvy online shopper. Well, I bit the bullet and did some serious after-the-fact comparison shopping today.

Long story short, I done good. It's a happy day, a new watch arrived The absolute best online price I found was $110 more than I paid Brick & Mortar. And that took some serious digging! The median online price is ~ +$200 more, with some Information Highway Robbers asking nearly a $500 premium. I am angry!

So me Inner Scotsman can now rest easy. Smile

T'anks for readin', y'all!

Cheers!

I like that it's an unusual color, you typically don't find a lot of grey watches.
That's a lovely watch. Thumbs up! I agree with the guys, get >> (Views: 22)

>> a nice strap, perhaps with deployant.
I have to agree with Marc...that watch deserves a better strap >> (Views: 26)

Surely there's a leather strap out there that can be had in a length suitable for your ham hock of a wrist? Laughing

Oh, sure! I've got several XL leather straps that would work.

But as hot as it's been here of late, I wouldn't leave the house with leather. Oops! When it cools off some, I'll experiment. For us, that'll be about November. Eek! Scary! Laughing

Cheers!

My SSC was relegated to leather for a good while...  Post contains photos (Views: 37)

...and thus relegated to cool-weather wear only until I found a sharp rubber strap while browsing a Fossil store's selection a few weeks back. Suits the watch perfectly...

I reckon there's gotta be a *rubber* strap out there somewhere that'll fit ya. Unless you don't like rubber straps in hot weather...but for me, putting the rubber band on the SSC gave it new life during warm weather months.
I love the SSC! Envious! Good solution, too! Clapping! (Views: 20)

You know, I never considered rubber. Oops! Sure, it's a viable option and, like leather, I've got a couple that would work. Thanks! Thumbs up!

Ironically, I don't like rubber straps much at all.. except for very hot sticky weather. Rolling on the floor laughing my ass off

I'm not keen on the "dust magnet" nature of most, for one thing. And I don't find them to be particularly comfortable, partly because of the way they tend to "grab" the wrist. But when things get truly hot 'n' nasty, and they're lubricated by a copious amount of sweat, rubber straps look & feel a lot better to me, of a sudden. Wink, wink

Cheers!

Great watch, but I cannot endorse its placement on a Nato... (Views: 28)
MCV -- August 02, 2010 11:07PM
not a fan of those straps and to me, an expensive piece like that deserves a nice leather strap or the bracelet you now wish you had.

Just my two cents. --Marc
You really think so? Eek! Scary! To me, the price is irrelevant..  Post contains photos (Views: 31)
Ricky Lee -- August 03, 2010 06:41AM
..when it comes to whether or not a watch works with a NATO. Rather, it's whether the design & styling are compatible. The average Seamaster works great for me on a NATO, for instance. To me, the Multifort also looks and wears totally natural on the NATO. Thumbs up!

And Jaeger-LeCoultre Watch Company certainly has no problem putting their Very Rich Man's Watch pieces on nylon. That Master Compressor Navy Seals LE that I fondled in Ocho Rios? In addition to the bracelet it included one of these:

Jaeger-LeCoultre Diving Alarm

And we're talking a watch with a street price of more that six times the Mido Watch Company here. Wink, wink

It's not a true NATO, I confess, but "NATO-like". The main run is not one piece, but 2-piece. It's built sort of like a Bund, come to think of it. It feels like silk I am in love! & what with wearing the JLC brand probably costs more than the Multifort itself, if purchased seperately. Eek! Scary!

Marc I agree brother but us Big guys formerly steroidally injected football players: (Views: 22)
KMJ1966 -- August 03, 2010 12:48AM
such as myself have massive wrists I for one cant buy a standard watch strap I always have to buy oversize customs, the quick solution is a Nato so in this case what about a Buffalo or Ostrich Nato? It would up class the look while making the watch strap more conducive to a watch at this price point. Although sweaty wrists are not fun either. As for the 23mm lugs the '59 citizen I overhauled has 21mm I could have gone down to 20 but cut down a 22 instead to get that I ate too much feeling! Rolling on the floor laughing my ass off

Cheers! -Kevin

Congrats again for a great watch & keepsake!

..one thing I noticed in both Ocho Rios and West Bay is that, once the shops are convinced you're Serious, they make a point to offer you an alcoholic beverage or 3 "on the house". Eek! Scary!

Yeah, they know what they're doin' alright. Laughing What they didn't count on is that a good Scotsman haggles all the more enthusiastically when he's in his cups! Rolling on the floor laughing my ass off

Ah! Funny you should ask, 'cause I definitely intended to mention that.

It's 23mm. I am confused

I know! Crazy! Loco!

Mind you, I don't have a problem with under-strapping, so 22mm is fine.

But what were they thinking? Eek! Scary!

Looks great on the NATO, but IMHO Johnny's suggestion of a mesh is a great one... (Views: 27)
DJM -- August 02, 2010 08:08PM
you could get one with a nice machined deployant for well under a 100 USD.

Also glad to hear you got a good deal. Congrats on all fronts.

Thank you, thank you very much! Bro. Dan! Yeah, I'll try a mesh.. (Views: 19)
Ricky Lee -- August 02, 2010 09:29PM
..sooner or later. Probably sooner. Smile

Luckily I have a couple of 22mm mesh bracelets on hand, so I'll be able to Try Before I Buy.

Thumbs up! Done much better than some other documented vacation purchases on PMWF. Laughing (Views: 22)
Chris L -- August 02, 2010 08:02PM
Indeed, paying 2x the going internet price seems to be a tradition for WIS on vacation. Wink, wink The old adrenaline kicks in and triggers the "buy or fly" response when looking at all the shiny stuff in the stores. Laughing
It took nearly an hour of haggling to get that price. Wink, wink (Views: 20)
Ricky Lee -- August 02, 2010 09:26PM
The price I was first quoted was a bit more than the median online price. Eek! Scary!

..I'll probably rob the Staib off the Balmer at some point, as a no-pain way to give it a try.

If it works - and I reckon it will - well.. we'll, see. Wink, wink

I think it needs a J-Strap constructed of vintage leather, sized XXXL. Smile (n/t) (Views: 21)
Chris L -- August 02, 2010 08:22PM
My thoughts exactly, a JT crafted vintage black with white stitching sounds appropriate (n/t) (Views: 17)

Given the 23mm lugs, a custom strap just may happen at some point. Smile (n/t) (Views: 23)
