1977 Ford F100 Pickup

77 F100

While I've owned this F100 since 1992, I'm only now getting around to allotting it space on the web site. Poor abused li'l ol' Ford... ;-)

Yes, 'tis true. I don't love a Ford. Well.. not many Fords, anyway. The joke is, I always keep one around so I can abuse it mercilessly.. ;-)
And there's some truth to that. How else to explain that, in the nearly ten years that I've owned it, this vehicle hasn't received even one proper oil change? O' course, being a Ford, it leaks oil like a sieve, and it thus must be constantly infused with fresh oil. I did unscrew the filter once, and slap on a new one. But I've never, ever had a wrench on the drain plug. Alas, it's not so easy to kill some Fords. Much as I hate to admit it, this one seems downright indestructible!
The top picture was taken on the spur of the moment, and shows the true state this truck's usually in. Pet brushes, air hoses, and all manner of other odds n ends tend to end up on the F100, in it's guise as Mobile Workbench. Shop rags are dried by hanging them from the mirrors. No, the garbage dumpster wasn't intentionally placed there to make a statement.. though I do tend to associate 'Ford' with 'garbage'.. ;-)
It's got the 300 c.i. straight six engine, p/s, non-power disc brakes (a rarity, that), no air, no nothin' else. A real basic truck. I added a cheap Sparkomatic AM/FM cassette, have replaced the 'black box' ignition module, U-joints, and that's basically it. An amazingly short list, for 10 years in a Ford (It had 116k when I bought it, and has 134k now). Oh, wiper blades, a tire or two, but that's routine maintenance.
So, in spite of my generally good-natured disdain for Fords, I have to admit this; this truck and I have been through a lot together. It was the prime mover in Bobby's motocross and cross country / hare scrambles racing careers. It's hauled a lot of stuff from one end of the home-place to the other. Heck, once I took it to N. Ill. and hauled back five motorcycles in one trip; three in the bed, and two Goldwings in a 4 x 8 U-Haul trailer. For the money, it's hard to imagine any truck filling my needs better... :-)
