Last time I wore the ex-TakesALickin Slava I ran into a problem. Scary! When the hands swung around past 7:38 they would foul & the movemenent stop. Nudge it past with the crown and it'd motor along 'til the next 7:38. But it would consistently foul and stop at 7:38. I am angry!! Never seen the like o' it, and methinks what happened is that I got the movement canted slightly in relation to the backside of the dial. Oops! My goof!

Ennywho, I am nothing if not persistent, so I stripped it all down. The semi-permanent affixment (see link, above) guaranteed that I damaged the ETA 805.111 in the process. I am sad... What's a caveman to do? I am crying!

Well, this one took a brand-new SII PC21 movement out of the Tom Swift Watch Stores, and pressed it into service. Laughing!

..used dial-dots and 5-minute epoxy to affix the movement to the dial, so 'tis semi-permanent, as before. But see the 3 small brass shims I epoxied around the periphery of the dial? Those align the dial to the case, so no need to epoxy the dial into place, as before. This makes the watch much more servicable and practical, since the dial-movement assembly can now be easily separated from the case. 'tis not pretty, I know..

..but you must admit that it looks OK from the front side. Laughing!

You'll note that there's no seconds hand. This might be because I wanted to downplay the quartz nature of the watch. When there's no seconds hand going "tick-pause-tick-pause-tick-pause", just the hour and minutes hand meandering along.. well, 'tis easy to forget it's quartz.

Or it might be because I didn''t have the requisite .17 mm seconds hand in stock. You decide! Laughing!

No lume on the OEM Slava dial, but the Otto Frei hands have pretty sporty lume.

All in all, it turned out quite well, I think. Only real niggle is the hour and minutes hand have a slight upwards bent (I neglected my usual routine of bending 'em in a slight downwards cast before setting the hands Oops! My goof!), but nothing outrageous.

I likes it! Thumbs Up! WIS honeymoon

But, no, 'tis not a keeper. That's where the "..jinxed! You'll soon have incoming!" part comes in. I am smiling... You see, I made bro. jinxed an offer on the surplus watches he got in the Criterion diver deal;

He accepted, so the Pencron and the Gruen are both on the way to north Mississippi. Thing is, he drives one heck of a hard bargain.. almost as hard as DJM! Scary! He wouldn't take a dime for the watches, but allowed that "If you ever release that Slava back into the wild, give me first crack at it". Done, my good man, done. Laughing!

If you can live without the seconds hand, PM me your snailmail address and I'll dispatch the Tom Swift FrankenSlava to you on Monday. Hell, even if you can't live without it! You want a seconds hand, just order one up from Uncle Otto and install 'er yerself! I am angry!! R O T F L M A O !!!!

Hows that Riddim? Three for three. Balls in your court.. 'cept, I might have one more arrow in me quiver! Better hurry! Laughing!

by a not so wise neighbor who decided to take a trencher to the sidewalk??? We live in a townhome complex?!?! Anyway, my phone is the only way I can post till it's fixed and it does not like to play nice with the pmwf. Hopefully I'll be back on a real connection tomorrow.
