The Longines 5-Star Admiral arrived yesterday, too, so 'tis sure we have an embarassment of riches in the Is Happy Day! department here at Shamrock Hollow. I am smiling...

I admit that I was a little concerned about this one.. the seller's photos, while reasonably hi-res, had a soft, almost 'photoshopped' feel to them, and seemed to show a bit of a patina. But Longines is high on my "Top 10 Quality Brands I'd Like To Own", along with Certina, Omega, Tissot, etc. So when this one went at a price too low to ignore, I took something of a flyer.

I'm happy to report that the dial is in very nice condition. There are a few specks, but it's razor sharp and obviously original. Indeed, it looks better through my 14X loupe than with the naked eye. Thumbs Up! Likewise the 10K gold-filled case is in quite decent shape, save for two wear spots on the back side of the case, and a small ding on the bezel. Seller said the bezel might be solid gold, but I see no conclusive evidence one way or the other.

While I quite like the case shape and style, it does have one drawback in that it's a semi-monocoque front-loader, and so I can't take a peek at the movement. I am sad...
But, as they say, it Runs Strong, and has a very solid and nice feel as it autowinds.

Anyone care to venture a guess as to the date? I'm thinking late mid-50's to early 60's.. but that's just a wild guess.

Niiiice! With a day/date complication on an auto, I'm thinking more mid-60's (Views: 7)

If it were date only, I would share in the 50's or 60's opinion.
Ditto, esp. if quick-set! (n/t) (Views: 5)
