Arrived home from work on St. Pat's day and was greeted by the heavenly aroma of my wife's special Corned Beef & Cabbage a la Guinness, Potatoes County Mayo, and soda bread. And there was a new watch waiting on my desk! It doesn't get any better'n that!
It's a Pulsar V732-OX36. 38mm diameter x 8mm thick, 20mm strap, quartz movement. A $30 impulse buy, the color scheme was the main attraction; I'm something of a Tennessee Vols fan...
I'm most favorably impressed with the feel and quality. Perfect size, for me, and the level of finish is superlative. The strap is particularly nice, for a watch in this price range.
Nice strong lume..
..though the 12 o'clock pip should be tad bigger, IMHO.
Of course, I can never leave well enough alone. So before I'd even finished the first Guinness I decided that I really, really needed to replace the tang buckle with a deployant clasp. Luckily I had a suitable 20mm clasp in my spare-parts drawer:
I was initially not quite as pleased with the styling as I'd thought I'd be judging by the fleaBay photo. The big black bezel combined with a traditionally styled case made it seem a bit confused. Is it a sports/diver or a casual or..? And I'm not fond of decorative gewgaws in a watch, so I was ambivalent towards the compass "complication" (which had not even been visible in the 'bay photo).
But it's grown on me and, overall, I'm now quite pleased with the little fella!
Pros:
- Orange!
- Very comfortable & wearable
- Beggar watch price
- Quartz movement - accurate, reliable, and maintenance free
Cons:
- Styling takes a little gettin' used to
- Quartz movement - doesn't have that certain élan of a mechanical
Thanks for lookin'!
