New watch arrived! New combo for an old favorite

When this strap showed up from sunny Yass, Australia (Thank you! Bro. JY!) I immediately started casting about for a likely victim candidate. Turned out to be one of me Caveman Creations™, the Clockwork geOrange. I've had it on a custom Jstrap for ages, and IMHO it worked great. To the point where I was starting to think of it as The Permanent Combo. But I'm always up for a change, so...

Yup, that's an -branded strap. And yes, I've gone ahead and mounted it Properly with the buckle at 6, even though that means the logos are upside-down from the wearer's perspective. In the case of an Invicta logo I believe that can be considered a Feature, not a Bug. Laughing Out Loud!

I had to do some light mods to get it to fit, mind. First off, it's a 26mm strap, and the CG has 24mm lugs. Nae problemo! Just in a couple of notches, right? Not so fast! First I had to remove..

..the quick-change springbars. And that proved to be a treat, since the resin material here is rather stiff and unpliable. But once they were out, cutting the notches was indeed a doddle. thumbs up But we're not done! I knew it was gonna be close, but when I tried on the new combo, I found that it was just a wee teensy bit tight when set on The Last Hole. Obviously we need a NEW last hole:

A little ragged Oops! My mistake! but it does the job. winking smiley Now, of course, there's not enough "tail" for the sliding keeper to engage the excess. I'm frowning But us ankle-wristed fellows have a trick!

You simply slide yon keeper over the buckle itself, and it is effectively locked in place. It's a bit of a struggle on some straps, but not too bad on this one.

However! Remember I mentioned that it's on the stiff and not-so-pliable side? Well, this does compromise the way the closure "hangs"...

And Hear ye hear ye! Bro. jackrobinson: Note that this also goes back to the strap issue that we discussed with the Zodiac Sport Racer. I'm sure you noticed that this strap does swivel. IOW it's not locked into place perpendicular to the case, like the Zodiac. Even so, due to the stiffness, it exhibits the very same "constriction" on the sides of the wrist:

Still, it don't wear half bad. Like the Zodiac, I won't say it's a paragon of comfort. But I wore it for a full 14 hours yesterday, and never had the urge to take it off. Since it looks The Dogs Bollocks, I can live with it quite happily. Rollin' on the floor laughin' me ass off!

One thing's sure. I still consider..

Nice job
If it doesn't fit, MAKE it fit.

I like the display back too. Even on a workmanlike movement with very few moving parts, I like to see the guts.

I wish they would start making clear car hoods for the same reason. I think it is just the geek in me.

That is without doubt the most horrible strap I have ever encountered, and I tip my hat to you if you've found a use for it above the ocean floor! thumbs up (n/t) JY 48 September 14, 2012 08:38AM

Ah, I've seen worse. Whistling...
I've seen resin straps so brittle they started to crack inside of 2 months. I'm frowning And one so flimsy the springbar cut through it like a knife, first time I snagged it on something. Oops! My mistake! I've encountered leather that would dye your wrist if ye dared break a sweat. Yikes! Scary! Nylon that frayed so bad after mere weeks that it looked like the cat had been after it. eye popping smiley

Nah, this strap wouldn't even make my Top 10 Worst Straps List. winking smiley

And you got to admit, it looks good! Laughing Out Loud!

Bro. John, do you have a photo of the Invicta which came equipped with this strap?
If so, I'd love to see it! smileys with beer

I wanted a big (46mm) diver with an offset crown and orange highlights but I was disappointed when it came - a nice enough watch but...just didn't bond. Sold it recently as part of a job-lot.

No offset crown, but anyone in the market for a big & inexpensive orange diver from a reputable maker should check this one out:

I have seen these and they just don't seem to have the design integrity I expect from Sottomarino. In fact they look like they've been designed by the work experience kid - good value though!! (n/t) JY 48 September 15, 2012 08:19AM
Designed? confused smiley They strike me more as an unabashed (albeit slightly tweaked) Rol€x clone. Whistling...
Not saying that's a bad thing, mind! Laughing Out Loud!

Believe it or no, not everyone hates them. Whistling...

Plus, this one's not Your Typical Mercedes hand, being a semi-skeleton design. Did you notice? winking smiley

Thank you! for the post and great demonstation pics
kudos on the present mod and the original panny homage build, it looks good!
I see what you mean - its the stiffness that most determines the pressing
