Neighboring Cattle
Tuesday 07 August, 2007
My neighbor (two places down, just to the south of
Dale) runs a modest herd of cattle and, after listening to them moo and
bellow for several weeks every morning as I enjoy my coffee, I decided
'twas time to introduce myself. It's about a half-mile..
..ride, all the way to the south edge of Dale's place. Then through..
..a dry gulch..
..through a stand of trees, and there you are!
An interesting mix of breeds, all seemingly healthy and contented.
Quite a few Black Angus (?)..
..including a couple with calves.
But the real star of the show, for me, was this ol' girl;
Now that, by golly, is a cow!
For some strange reason I couldn't quite put myself at ease with this one.
..and was careful to keep the distance between me and the treeline
shorter than the distance 'tween me and her. She seemed like quite an
even-tempered beastie though, despite the fearsome rack o' horns, and
gave me no trouble at all.
