Been too busy to read the forum for the past few weeks, much less post. Here's why:
Bought the wife a new toy!
But, you say, "Why should that keep you so busy?" Good question!
Spent the first week having a ball driving it at every opportunity. Yee-haw!
But, and you knew this was coming, Cheap Scots Bastard© that I am, I went for a 'Mechanic's Special'.
On the plus side, it's got very low miles for a '97 model (43,400). And it runs and drives great. Oh, and I picked it up at roughly half the NADA book value, naturally.
On the down side, it needs a lot of mechanicing. Already replaced the clutch release bearing (a complete clutch 'kit', actually - the extra cost was trivial compared to the "..long as I'm in there" factor) and, boyo!, was that a treat. Also new shocks, brake pads, and tires (and, yes, the rims match now ). That's pretty much all it needed underneath.. and that's enough!
But, oh no, I'm not done. Then I moved on to the cockpit, and here's what that looks like at the moment:
The main job here is the replacement of the heater core. The dashboard was toast, too, having numerous sun cracks, so "..long as I'm in there" I'm replacing that as well. It'll also get a new radio, headrest speakers, and carpet.
Note the red door and the blue firewall. Yep, as I suspected, the car has been in an accident. This doesn't bother me much, as it does drive fine - 'twas repaired well, apparently. And I did suspect as much going in, despite the clean Carfax report. (Don't place too much faith in Carfax, folks! Go with your own observations and gut feeling instead!)
Pam's handling the procurement of parts and (Cheap Irish Wench© that she is ) is coming up with some great deals, mostly on . So far so good.. I estimate we'll have 'bout 65 to 70% of book in it when it's done. And, as a plus, I'll know the car very well.
So what's new wi' you, my BFAM?
-Ricky
You and me both!
Just couldn't resist.. Pam had her heart set on a Miata, and this seemed like too good of a deal to pass up. And probably will again, when I can finally put the wrenches away.
} ..hope you enjoy it!
Thanks! Think of it as WIS Insurance. This oughta be worth
a brand-new , at the very
least!

What's new wit' me is not nearly as much as wit' you, I'm happy to report .
Work and beer (Smithwicks) and sleep and beer and play. Not necessarily in that order mind you ROFL!
And I second that adice on CarFax. Always pop the hood and mind the quarter panel welds. If they don't match from one side t'other, it's "aftermarket" as they say. Also, different colored inner door panels and firewalls are somewhat of a give-away as well
Stay well my friend, you and yours!
Arrrrrrgh! Go head and twist the knife!
We really, really, really need a Smithwick's distributor in Memphis...

Oh, aye. And the fact that the passenger side airbag had been fired was a pretty good hint, too.
} Stay well my friend,
} you and yours!
, my brother. And
you and yours as well!
