Can it be? A homage to an original?! >>

Wore this to work today:
Trintec Altimeter Got a compliment on the Trintec (unusual in itself, to get a comment on any watch!), from a fellow who's an aviation nut. We talked for a bit, and I told him about the Bell & Ross Br01 Pilot:
He was at the price..
At one point I nearly referred to the Trintec as a homage, then it hit me.. The Trintec predates the Br01!
Now, I can't document this precisely. I do know that the Br01 was unveiled at Basel in April of 2005. I bought the Trintec in July of '05. So, while it's (barely) possible that Trintec could have knocked off a homage in 3 to 4 months, there's one sticking point: I bought it (online) from a surplus liquidator. The packaging of my unit bore that out - it had obviously been kicking around a while. A couple of years, I estimate. So it's highly unlikely that the Trintec could be a homage to the . Practically impossible, IMHO.
Now, I'm not saying that the Trintec is an original design. Seems like I recall a that bore a resemblance. Though, as I recall, that was a custom (or very limited edition), and was never mass produced. But I also recall that the resemblance was nowhere near as close as between the Trintec and Br01.. look at the pics! They're two peas in a pod!
So this begs the question: Can any of y'all cite a blacked-out 'cockpit instrument' styled watch that predates the Trintec? Pre-2004, say? If not, I'll be forced to conclude that the subject line is true! And that'd be akin to Hell Freezing Over!
