Went out for lunch today (sort of unusual for me in itself), and by chance it happened to be a joint that was pretty much right next door to a TJ Maxx. Chance I am confused, or possibly fate. Eek!

Yeah, you guys already know what's coming. Rolling on the floor laughing my a.. off I hesitate to break out the department digicam and start shooting watch photos, so I'll just steal one from you each of you..

Initial impression - this is one way cool watch, just drop-dead gorgeous, and 'tis an absolute steal at $65 and change. WIS Honeymoon

O' course, it barely fits me wrist, and I fear it will cut the circulation off Eek! before the end of the day. Which means the subject line could also have been "Hey brother, can you spare a couple of links for a Wenger Commando 7474X/T?" Laughing Rolling on the floor laughing my a.. off

Seriously.. if any of y'all can spare a couple, shout out. Though.. well, would that be akin to a Deal With The Devil..? Oops!

No matter! 'tis a chance I'd take! Rolling on the floor laughing my a.. off

Cheers!

Maybe so. But I done a good deed in the store, so perhaps karma..

..will spare me the evil effects Eek! of the demonic plague. Wink

What? The good deed? Ah! Glad you asked! Wink

Well.. there was a gent in line in front of me, with two watches on the counter in front of him. He's hemming and hawing and trying to make up his mind. Well, after a little bit, I politely snuck in and asked the saleslady to pull the Wenger for for me. I gave it a cursory 10-second inspection, and before she could turn back to the other customer I asked her to ring it up. She's a bit taken aback, as my decision was lightning-quick in comparison to the other gent. So I mention that I'm a watch collector, have seen the watch online and so had basically already made up my mind. And that, indeed, I had come into the store specifically for that very watch.

Well.. long story short, that first customer has heard all this, and stops me on the way out - "Pardon me, but I wonder if you could give me an opinion on this watch". WTH, I'm not in that big a hurry, so I check it out - a Stuhrling Original, a dressy Roman numeral jobbie. Fit and finish were pretty good, but something about it still rubbed me the wrong way. Thumbs down The other watch he was checking out was also a Stuhrling, a perfectly hideous Eek! open-heart automatic. Well, what could I do? I advised him gently that, IMNSHO, both were crap, and he'd be much better off with a nice Citizen, Seiko, Swiss Army, or the like. I pointed out a Citizen that was styled roughly similar to the Stuhling, and he seemed intrigued. I didn't stick around to see which way he went, but I'm reasonably certain he didn't walk out with a Stuhrling Original... Rolling on the floor laughing my a.. off

Any time you can save a fellow man from Stuhrling, blessings on thee. Laughing

no offense to those that actually do have them. Smile

I think I remember a diver extention on the bracelet Ricky. Jpeg Attachments

I took the bracelet off the "Misfit Wenger". I've been spoiled by the good bracelets of my rich-man's watches, so I found it kind of rattle-y and floppy.

Really, I had to pay a few dollars more and live with the upside-down "15" on the GMT ring. laughing

Doh! Oops! Yeah, I remembered, just before me fingers turned blue.

With the divers extension deployed, and the fine adjusts tightened up as much as possible, it's a little looser than I consider optimum. So I'm still gonna need a couple of spare links.. still, this is better than having my hand turn black and fall off. Eek! Laughing

Thanks Bro. Chris! Cheers!
Ricky Lee 97 February 16, 2010 01:23PM

Sorry 'bout that!

I didn't mean to start a thing going here, but it looks like I did so anyway.

Drop me an e-mail with your address and you can have my two spare links. I have a small favor to ask in return, but I'll send that in a PM.

And sure you're right, Bro. Zirlin.. this is quite a difficult watch to photograph. Eek! That first photo is straight out of the camera, mind. But the HWS was so washed out..

..that I did tweak the brightness and contrast a bit.

Also a big shoutout to Bro. Les, who sent me no less than four spare links. Clapping! I installed two of them yesterday, and with the fine adjust set to the middle position, the fit is spot-on perfect. WIS Honeymoon Just in time, too.. I was kinda gettin' used to wearin' it with the divers extension deployed. Smile But I sure am glad to dispense with it. Laughing

Thanks so much Les! Thumbs up!

I finally made it to TJ Maxx today. Either I stalled long enough or they never had the watch Jpeg Attachments

so I avoided the Tempting Devil , but they did have this Wenger Dual Time for $129. I've seen these on Amazon for $119 and $94 for the black dial version which I prefer. Needless to say I walked out empty handed.

I saw that one there, too. Didn't check the price because I have already owned it!

But if you can buy it for $94 at Amazon, that's a good deal!

Glad to help!

And thanks for taking a look at my Nautica - you should post your repair report for the forum...

Re: ..you should post your repair report for the forum...

I could do that. Wink

I sometimes do so on my brick-n-mortar customers watches (well, briefcase-n-shoe-leather in my case Smile), as you may have noticed. But I was reluctant to do so on a PMWF Brothers watch 'cause.. well, if nothing else I felt I should give you first crack at it. Laughing

Thanks again Les!

Old watch, new photos.

June 23, 2011 04:57AM

OK, OK, not that old, since I acquired the watch in February of 2010. Nor, I suppose, are the photos all that new, since I took 'em last Sunday.. but you get the point. wink

What spurred me to action, of course, was this post wherein I lamented the fact that I'd never managed a proper photo of the watch. No exaggeration, the best photos I've managed to this point are downright pathetic. Frowning

Note that I've worn the watch every working day since I got back home. I'm responsible for coordinating the final details of our shiny new Swiss machine tool prior to its shipment, and that means lots and lots of phone calls between Memphis and Safnern. So I need to know the local time there at a glance, and the..

And, sure, in keeping with the 'Wenger Mania' spirit, I've been pairing it with the
"S.A.K. Design" Wenger and the "of Switzerland" Wenger. If that means I'm stuck in a rut, so be it Tongue for I've been enjoying this modest trio immensely.

"Mechanical watches are so brilliantly unnecessary. Any Swatch or Casio keeps better time, and high-end contemporary Swiss watches are priced like small cars. But mechanical watches partake of what my friend John Clute calls the Tamagotchi Gesture. They're pointless in a peculiarly needful way; they're comforting precisely because they require tending." - William Gibson
