Posts: I forget...

I still sense some skepticism on the part of certain parties on the burning question "Does Such A Thing As A Fake aleart Tissot PRC200 Exist?"

You know who ye are! Rolling on the floor laughing my a.. off

Well, this post should answer the question definitively, once and for all. Wink

First a disclaimer: I know and respect the Policy concerning Fake alearts. This post is presented for information purposes only, to help our Dear Readers avoid buying a fake .

Also, please note that I did not purchase this watch personally. Rather, it was donated to Ricky Lee's Home For Wayward Wristwatches on the condition that I would Watch or Accessory Review it here on the Phorum. This post fulfills that obligation. Thank you! to our anonymous benefactor for making this Public Service Post possible. Clapping!

OK. On with the show. You might want to review this post to complete the setup. Suffice to say that the watch came from this site..

Tissot PRC200 Fake

..and, no, the price is not a typo. This watch really does sell for US $3.89 shipped. I am confused Crazy! Loco! Here's what ye get for the price of a Happy Meal:

Now the first thing you need to know is that this is not a functioning chronograph. The pushers are real in that..

..they are spring-loaded and do go in and out, and would work with an actual chrono movement. But the watch uses a simple 3-hand time-only movement, and they only "push air". Frowning The "chrono sub-dials" do use actual hands vs. the sometimes seen painted-on simulacra of hands, but they are obviously fixed and set permanently in place.

The caseback..

..totally gives it away. Snapin? Oops! STAINLESS STEEL BACK? Crazy! Loco! WATER RESISTANT? I am confused Suuuuure it is. Laughing

Now, I was intensely curious about the movement. Given the under US $5 price, I figured there was no WAY it could be brand-name. And, sure enough, I found..

..some sort of Generic-Chinese PC21 clone marked "SL 68". Eek!

It runs, and has kept spot-on time for ~ 24 hours. So who knows? But, somehow, I'm thinkin' it won't prove to be the equal of a Genuine PC21. Wink

All in all, sad as this thing is..

..I've got to admit that, from 2 feet away, it's pretty darned convincing! Oops! Eek! Provided no one asks you to fire up the chrono and time some interval for them, that is. Rolling on the floor laughing my a.. off

So. I know you skeptics are thinking "Yes, but you still haven't proven that a close (I.e. actual chronograph) Fake aleart of the PRC200 exists!"

To you I say "Get real! I am angry!" If the Fakers can do this for US $3.89 shipped, they can knock off a $25 functioning-chrono PRC200 Fake aleart that is WAY beyond your ability to easily detect it! If you think otherwise, you're fooling yourselves! I am crying

Caveat Emptor!

Hope this is received in the Friendly And Helpful Spirit it is offered, and Thank you! for readin'!

Cheers!

Wow! Yes, it's terrible -but for less than $4, shipped? Crazy! Crazy! Loco! Great way to get batteries laughing
Sure it's the horological equivelent of a Testarossa conversion of a Firebird... but, for an OTC price of a 387S cell you can get it shipped in special battery "holder" that actually that keeps time.

Although, one may wonder what the seller could be doing with your billing information...Eek!

Nuvolari 77 August 07, 2011 05:34AM

More like the Testarossa conversion of a YUGO!!!! (n/t)

Yes, that's certainly a valid concern. I understand that our Anonymous Benefactor took.. ah, certain steps to prevent this. And also to test whether buying from the merchant in question would result in increased Spam, etc. AFAIK, the answer is "No" on both counts. It kinda pains me to say it but, at least in the specific aspect of using your account info only for the purpose intended, this seller seem legit.

Cheers!

Good thing is that it can be modded to a beautiful no name dial watch! Laughing Thumbs up!
As for the fakes, yes , we all know they have always been there and will always be. They are a part of reality as we are also a part of reality! So, whenever we find one, we can at least try to ... mod it!!! That was a very good topic, Ricky! I know I am becoming boring by saying this often but that is what I think!Cheers!

IF 78 August 07, 2011 03:02AM

That will almost certainly be the eventual fate of this particular example. Wink

And the funny thing about that,? Thats actually one of the low quality ones......
They have examples out there that have the chrono functions and the proper looking caseback!!! Even more disturbing, the LeLocle fakes out there actually have a really good looking fake ETA auto inside!!!!!!

Re: Even more disturbing, the LeLocle fakes out there actually have a really good looking fake ETA auto inside!
Disturbing indeed. Frowning Taken to that level, these Fake alearts become downright evil, IMHO. Eek!

I assume that a fake LeLocle with a true ETA engine would sell for a price very close to the Original Article. As I mentioned to Bro. Harold, below, this equates to a concerted attempt to deceive, in a way that a fake R0lex seldom in practice does.

I have no doubt of it. Eek!

I have no doubt that any watch has been, currently is being, or could be faked URL
And that includes vintages, as a couple of Ricky's BFTP posts have indicated. When I quipped the other day about Parnis watches being faked, I was only half joking. If a Casio F-91W can suffer a fake industry, anything can. The usual "It's not worth faking a $200 Brand X" is a pretty empty argument when a sub-$10 watch is being faked.

Amen, brother, amen! Clapping!

The fact that some folks still deny this, despite all the solid evidence, is just plumb amazing to me. I am confused

Cheers!

Anything that can be faked to sell for even a small profit, will be..
and its not just suckers that get taken.. I've seen locally, fake bottles of Creed fragrances, which considering Creed not a really easy brand to find out here, or all that well known either at first was rather surprising.. A 100ml bottle of the "jus reale" runs to $300.. the knockoff was going for $25..

Having said that, Creed's "Royal Oud" is a very, very nice scent (I picked up a sample from the authorized outlet) I should see if I can find some Montale "Black Oud"

Mind you, I do believe that anyone who bought one of these ultra-low-end Fake alearts thinking it was a real easily qualifies as "a sucker". Wink Compared to the Genuine Article, it's just so..

..obvious a Fake. Even without looking at the back, much less opening it up, the lack of a Date complication makes it plain as day.

That being said, I fear that plenty of honest, well-meaning consumers are being snookered on the more advanced functioning-chrono PRC200 fakes. I am crying In far, far greater numbers, I reckon, than those who buy fake high-end watches thinking they're real. I mean, come on! How many buyers of Fake aleart R0lex truly believe them to be genuine? I am confused Right. Smile Darned few! I might even go so far as to say "practically none".

But a convincing fake Tissot, selling for near the price of the genuine article.. that's a far more insidious and deceiving thing. Eek! Frowning

Well.. less than a minute with Google Shopping and I was presented with an "Add To Shopping Cart" button. Laughing

I'm assuming the site I found offers Official Merchandise, judging by the prices. Eek! The Montale Black Aoud goes for US $165 for 100 ml, with the Royal Aoud being US $175 per 100 ml.

I think I'll stick to Old Spice... Rolling on the floor laughing my a.. off

Ah.. Royal Oud up here is about $275 for the larger size.. most online dealers won;t ship to the GWN, something about postal regs and shipping stuff that has alcohol in it.. And to date my most pricey scent was Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet at a mere $100, for 100ml..

I do have Old Spice, and it does get used..
