I'm a bit surprised that no one's asked what I did with the third ricky_us bracelet. After all, I have reported on two of them. No one's curious about my Nefarious Plan for the third? I am confused

And sure I had one. Hey, I am the MASTER of Nefarious Plans! Bwaaa ha Ha HA! Laughing

Bit of setup.. I have this one watch, see, which I've owned for ~ 2-1/2 years and love dearly, but for which I've never been able to find a suitable combo. Oops! I've tried leather, all manner of nylon, several bracelets (even a Twist-O-Flex®!), nothing worked to my satisfaction. Thumbs down It seems to cry out for a bracelet, and indeed the OEM fitment was. Too short for me ankle-sized wrist, though, and with proprietary links that proved impossible to find, despite a Saved eFlay Search and years of waiting. I am crying Thus my Plan to use the ricky_us bracelet as mod fodder for a custom-fitted bracelet. Smile

Credit where credit's due, though, so I point out that my Nefarious Plan was directly inspired by Bro. Murphy's infamous Comic Book Mod. But "Enough!" you say, "Bring on the pictures already!" OK, OK! Tongue The watch of which I speak is none other than..

I won't go into much detail here..

..unlike Dave, I'm too lazy a sod for step-by-step photos. Wink And anyway he's already done it, so it'd be redundant. Suffice to say that I pretty much followed his method exactly. Why reinvent the wheel? Crazy! Loco!

The one area of Dave's tutorial that I would like to reinforce, even though I can't do so as eloquently..

..is this: Do not forget this step! If you do so, you have basically created a bracelet which, unless your watch has drilled-though lugs, is non-removable. Eek!

'tis a doddle to do..

..I used the "chop saw" bit on yon Dremel©. Use a light touch!

So. I got to say..

..it sure wears Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr8! WIS Honeymoon

Given that I've been so long in the search for A Proper Combo for this watch, I'm just happier'n a kitten with a catnip mouse! Cool

Thanks for readin' y'all!

Cheers!

Good show!! Clapping!

Well.. the OEM bracelet had rather unusual "Rallye Style" endpieces. I had..
What I thought was a "Eureka Moment" early on, when it looked like I would be able to adapt them to the ricky_us bracelet..

Alas, it quickly turned into an "Ah, Crap!" moment Oops! when I realized that, while the center links on both bracelets were 10mm and of compatible gender, the outside dimension of the OEM endlinks was too narrow by 2mm. Frowning

Thank you! I am pretty jazzed with it! Blushing The OEM bracelet was folded links all around and, while it starts out at 22mm it quickly tapers to 18mm. The ricky_us bracelet is tapered also, but as it tapers down to 20mm it's a more robust unit all around. Much more so when you factor in the solid links...

Great result! Thumbs Up See, that bracelet width looks >>
>> much more appropriate for that case.

Still putting the clasp the proper way up, I see. laughing Keep up the good work.

Yup! A wider bracelet with "stepped" endlinks was the whole point of the exercise, of course. I tried it with a straight 20mm bracelet and it was close, but no cigar. Thumbs down This one may not be perfect.. but 'tis so close I'd hate to live on the difference! Smile

Hah! Yeah, a model of conformity, that's me. Laughing

BTW, in case you missed it in the earlier thread..

What I commonly call the "shell" or "clasp shell" is indeed attached at 12 on most of my watches.

"Most", ye'll note, for there are exceptions! Witness this :

Casio G-Shock G7500G

..the strapped is rigged "conventional" there. IOW the buckle, if it had a buckle, would be @ 12. However, with the addition of the diver's deployant, this means that the clasp shell ends up @ 6. I am confused

And, yeah, I did try to swap the strap around so that it's rigged backwards My Way. Smile However, the strap on this thing is subtly asymmetrical. Crazy! Loco! I'm not sure this is intentional - it may simply be a tolerance stack-up issue - but, while it's possible to cram it together the other way 'round, it just doesn't fit right.
I find it interesting that, in this case, the strap being rigged conventionally results in a deployant that operates "backwards".

Or would you personally consider this combination "clasp the proper way up"? Whistle

It's a tough call, Ricky. I'm inclined to say that the Casio is clasped "According to Hoyle">>
>>because the part with the holes is attached at 6.

Dave M 21 April 15, 2012 12:45PM

I'll buy that. However, I still maintain that this watch is Proof Positive that..

.."Long side at 6" and "Clasp at 12" can't both be Fundamental Laws Of The Universe. Wink

With this combo, ye simply can't have it both ways! Laughing
