Yikes. Get rid of that Chrysler! It's never-ending with them.
How about another trusty Mazda? or Honda? I like the watch, and maybe this doesn't matter to you, but maybe the fact that the hands are fat enough to pretty seriously obstruct the chrono dials is enough to bring your inner Scotsman into action? |

SuperPoos are popular in Canada (just teasing a bit)
My dad had an Impreza wagon. Not a terrible car, overall. But it did have constant brake and bearing problems, so make sure you have those checked if you buy used. If you're thinking about new, there is a new model SUV that a coworker of mine just ordered, which has a fancy new GDI engine and gets mid-30 mpg fuel economy. I think the Imprezas get ~25 mpg? It's worth considering, if you keep cars for 10+ years. 10 years from now, gas might be $10 a gallon. |
Smaug | 16 | November 30, 2012 09:12PM |

I have a high degree of respect for Honda's automobiles... ..but somehow they always manage to just miss the mark with me.
For example, I seriously looked at an Odyssey for Miss Pam's new ride. I wanted to buy it, really. I did like it. But it was a little too small, the creature comforts a bit lacking (for the money), and what Hi-tech bells and whistles it did have were nowhere near as user-friendly as with the . So. Miss Pam's now stylin' in... ..a 2013 Town And Country.

Re: a 2013 Town And Country. My Brother in law, who works at one of Dodge's plants in IN, as machine maintenance man, will love you for this!
My other b.i.l. OWNS one of the Odyssey's and while I like the car and
all, it's more of a mini van/people carrier, then a sportive Honda
(though, I certainly felt that engine in there!). All in all, it's an designed and built car, not so much of a 'sportive'
Honda, as I come to like them... I was more thinking in the realms of a
smaller car, which gave you so much costs, to replace by a nice Accord
or such. But I've noticed, a car is often to small for most Americans,
while I wonder, why their bathtubs are so small in the mean time....

Accord vs. Minivan
Let me give you a little insight into the American mentality. Some
families, when they have their 2nd kid, get a minivan. Like my sister's
family, who has a Toyota Sienna. This way. They can bring themselves,
their two kids, all of the kids' crap, AND pick up a couple friends!
Most of the time, it is just them and the two kids, and they don't have to pack carefully; just throw it in the back. Also, the middle row of seats are nice and high, so that the baby seats end up at a height that doesn't require them to bend over to put the kids in and out. The doors open and close with a push button, and so does the back hatch. Lastly, lots of women here feel "safer" if they sit up a little higher. They don't feel bullied on the road by the SUVs and trucks (lorries). If someone tailgates them because they are going slow, they don't care, because they feel safer in their bigger car. Guys tend not to like them, but a practical man will grudgingly admit how darned useful they can be. I have a friend who decided in favor of the Sienna (instead of the Oddyssey) because a 4x8 sheet of drywall or plywood would fit flat in the back. No more tying stuff to the roof. There's a lot to like about them, even if they aren't fun to drive or fuel efficient. If gas in The Netherlands was only $3.45 a gallon, I bet these would be all over YOUR country too.
I traded MY Mazda MX-5 for a manual transmission Accord EX (with the 2.4
L, 190 hp engine) when the baby came in March. The Accord is about 80%
as fun to drive, more fuel efficient, runs on cheaper fuel, has a nice
roomy interior and a good sized trunk. I refuse to get a minivan. I'd
rather pack carefully and just have 2 kids or less. On those rare
occasions when friends want to be with me AND the kid, and we can't fit
in the Accord, then they can bloody well drive their own car.
One type of car that seems to have been forgotten in the US is the station wagon. We have some small hatchback cars, like the Toyota Matrix and Mazda 3, but no longer station wagons any more. It is either hatchback, sedan, minivan, coupe, or SUV. Some of the newer SUVs are getting so small now that they are effectively station wagons. Kate's Nissan Rogue, for instance, gets 25-27 mpg but still has AWD. One last thing to consider. We have a LOT of miles of road here. Many of which are in the midwest, great plains, and desert. No curves for miles, and no hills. Most of our driving is not the fun type, so a sportier car's talents would be wasted, and the practicality of a minivan would be missed more often. I'm with you though. I'll take sporty and fun to drive with ENOUGH room, over big and roomy any day. Here's my Photobucket album containing pix of the two of them. |

Maybe you missed that I KNOW a bit about the American lifestyle... ..being married to my wife Paula from South Bend IN, since 20 years.
Visited about 11 times since I met her, have been driving quite a lot in
the States (see my profile on pmwf), also drove a Dodge Grand Caravan
and the older model too, plus a variety of sizes in rentals. My wife has
5 siblings plus many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends in the States,
we visited them ALL, many regularly. Last 2 years due to my unemployment
no money for traveling over the big pond though, unfortunately. Of
course, one SELDOM see any of the family on this side (short on time
and/or short on money too)
Yes, I always wondered what happened to modern Station Wagons in general and in the USA particularly. Mine is even a "aerodeck", a small stationcar model on the base of a Civic sedan. But Honda only makes a EU Accord as "Tourer". As you may know, the EU Accord is based upon the Japanese model, the US Accord is different. Still the model is around in the States as a certain Acura. Here some pictures of the Euro Accord Tourer and the "normal" version |

need big polluting cars but many more can do with a smaller engine due

It' even smaller then mine. You don't need large cars, with a small
family. With a large family which you haul everyday, that is a different
thing. Also driving around large distances, like in the States you love
to do that in a BIG car indeed, as comfortable as possible, CC and A/C
on and there you go..... In the van I mentioned I rented, I had a
satellite radio, so all over the country you could listen to the same
station, that was great.

Yeah, but comparing a station wagon - even
a big one! - to the Town & Country.. It's the difference between a
briefcase and a steamer trunk.
Ahhhhh.. yeah, you got a point. Can't say I love the thing, exactly. But as for admitting to its practicality, it's not grudgingly done at all.
And I tell you what: With the Bluetooth, WiFi, DirecTV, DVD players, HDD sound system, cameras, GPS, track lighting, leather, 287 Bhp, etc. etc. and ad infinitum.. Well. The Captain would feel right at home, since it feels like a bloody Starship!
Or you bite the bullet and run multiple vehicles. No compromises whatsoever, that way.

Almost certainly. That's not uncommon with
smaller sellers and, since the direct link to PayPal is a fail for you,
that's probably the only practical solution. Tell him to send it on!
Ahhhh... Lorus you mean, right?
They're OK. Very much "built to a price", if you know what I mean. Even more so than Pulsar. Base metal cases almost exclusively, for instance. But as Seiko's entry-level brand, to be expected. They use Seiko Group movements, so no worries there! Quote
jackrobinson What do you know about the pulsar kinetic - any good compared with seiko? Identical to a Seiko, movement-wise. Mind you I'm no fan of the technology. Nor am I alone in that. If you own one watch, a Kinetic is fine. Great, even! But if you're a collector with many watches in rotation, in my experience a Kinetic will bring heartache and sorrow. |

What's really overlooked amongst WIS In General is that there's a Citizen brand ( ) which is exactly analogous to Lorus with respect to marketing position. Q&Q is not sold in the US Market, mind (at least not officially), so perhaps that has something to do with it. But AFAIK they're in every other world market, so still a bit strange... Nice watches there at independent And nice to know I've made some positive impact. 'Specially (this is me
moaning) after how jinxed this week started. Bad luck one after another
that the only thing left to do is smile and admit there is a mojo on me and just expect the worst. I should've been on holiday this week or maybe preferably stayed in bed, I tellya.
But you know, browsing from my high phone from work (no accessible wired or wireless LAN where I am at) I had a couple o laughs today induced by JFK, Smaug, Consigliere and yourself and lots of pleasant brain stretching and interesting discussions and discoveries plus I am about to pull the trigger on the Pulsar chrono which is satisfaction in itself - purchase rush. So there, I've cheered myself up. |
