When ye have a mil-style nylon strap that's just baaaarely long enough, you can gain an extra ~ 2 to 5 mm by adjusting the "overlap" to near-zero at the buckle end;

This is made safe and practical by adding a wee drop of 5-min epoxy, and clamping it in place..
