..on what I hope will not be deemed "a crap strap". Wink

I admit that I've been remiss in purchasing a suitable replacement. Main problem is I just can't make up my mind as to what's the Best Combo! I'm pretty well convinced that a mesh bracelet is the way to go, and I thought about trying this one. Two problems, though. First, it's a considerably tighter weave than the OEM mesh, and didn't pass my crossed-eyeball inspection. Then too, I consider it THE perfect match for the Quartz , so I am loathe to give it up.

So, casting about today I decided that this one..

Speidel genuine croc

Speidel genuine croc

..the Genuine Crocodile in 11/16" (17.46mm) might be worth a go.. Hey, Genuine Crocodile, right?! That's pretty upscale for an ol' Mississippi redneck! Laughing

Plus, this is a sure 'nough vintage strap from roughly the same period as the Ω, and in minty condition, being NOS.

One sticky wicket, of course..

Speidel genuine croc

..is the gold hardware. Oops!

But the buckle is easily replaceable, and as it turns out..

A great upscale change for that watch! Like it, though admittedly....
the gold "toe" would drive me nuts!!!

Re: ..the gold "toe" would drive me nuts!!!
If it were visible whilst wearing the watch, 'twould me too. But as it's not, it bothered me not at all.

However, the strap's still a Fail. Thumbs down

Stay tuned, Version 2.0 will be coming up shortly...

Laughing Cheers!

Hi Ricky Laughing Well, i'm a little skeptic I am confused
Your crocodile strap is very truculent Blushing and strike the sweetness of your Omega! Don't try a mesh, instead (IMHO) put a classic smooth and dusky Laughing leather strap wink

OK, though. "Smooth" leather I could do. "Dusky".. not so sure about that. I am confused Let me see what I can conjure up...

Thumbs Down To me, it is a bit too fancy for the watch.
Too glossy for a more sporty watch style.

It might work, if you buffed the case to a high gloss, but it might not too.

I think that watch is a great candidate for gray leather or some kind of NATO or RAF strap.

Smaug 34 June 02, 2012 10:34PM

You know, I'm not happy with the high gloss of that strap either. Jpeg Attachments URL

I don't know about those "holey" straps...
I don't mind the look but I'd be afraid of strange sunburns.

The bracelet in the middle of that pic looks a lot like that of my late 90s early 2000s vintage Seamaster Pro. So that might be an option, but probably not a cheap one.

The mesh looks good, as does the textured black leather strap.

I don't have a problem with an aftermarket bracelet. If you look at them side-by-side...

Hacked photo by Ricky Lee

..the ricky_us solid-link is quite similar to the OEM Omega bracelet.

I've got a couple of these already, and consider the quality to be top-notch. IMHO it wouldn't be at all out of place on the Chronostop, and at $12.99 shipped it certainly won't Break The Bank.

Nor did I, until I started researching this specific watch.

I mean, I knew that such "sideways" Driver's Watches existed, but didn't know about these models in particular.

FWIW the "below the wrist" Chronostops are highly collectible and much sought-after. I've yet to see one go for less than $1K! Wink

Laughing Thank you!

O' course there are still two wee problems:

* Summer-time

* Mississippi

Eek!

I seriously do have a nearly iron-clad "No Leather Straps In The Summer" rule.

Sure I'll occasionally cheat and wear one for a few hours whilst knocking about in the air-conditioning. But actually stepping out the door with one? No. Not between ~ May 31 and October 31.

So being as this watch is still new (to me) and much in favor, this is going to be a challenge! Oops!

At some point I will still fit a mesh bracelet, I reckon. Or perhaps even one of these..

'net photo

..though obviously a straight-end unit. They're not that much different in appearance than one of the OEM bracelets which Omega offered as original fitment for the Chronostop...

Ricky Lee 30 June 03, 2012 06:57PM

How do you feel about genuine rubber? >> Jpeg Attachments
>>recently, I have treated myself to a few genuine rubber straps, and I love them. Here is one on 20mm lugs, but this particular strap will be on the small side for you.

They are a bit pricey compared to silicone rubber. They do not attract lint. I find them to be comfortable. They use a vanilla scent to mask the " new tires" smell of the material.

This one is the model 300L....
'net photo

According to the Bonetto Cinturini website, this one is 87mm on each leg.

Dave M 36 June 03, 2012 07:22PM

I confess I've never tried Sure 'nough Rubber.
Mind you I'm not a huge fan of silicone nor other rubbery synthetics.

I know that, on paper, they appear ideal for hot & humid conditions. But I don't like the "slippery" feel Oops! they take on when things get really perspirational.

Quote
Dave M
They do not attract lint.
That's a big plus! Thumbs up! Their dust magnet nature is another thing I don't like about many (most?) silicone straps.

That'd be extremely iffy for me. It would work on a watch with a very large lug-to-lug spread, something on the order of 55mm. But with a more conventionally-sized watch, I need more like 190mm of effective strap length.
Ricky Lee 29 June 03, 2012 09:01PM
