I posted this one in the rollcall thread the other day, and was distressed to realize that, not only didn't I have a decent photo of the watch, I didn't even have one showing it with a strap attached. Oops! My goof! Scary!

Not acceptable. I am sad... So this morning I set out to remedy that sorry state of affairs.

Not exactly catalog-shot material, but a definite improvement, I fancy. Wink, wink ... The light was pretty darned good this morning! Thumbs Up!

Mind you, these photos don't really do the beautiful mother-of-pearl dial justice. Oops! My goof!

The strap is a WBHQ in XL from Otto Frei, and the deployant is from Modena.

This is the only 'curvex' style watch in my collection, and I am very impressed with the comfort an wearability. Thumbs Up!

Modest though it is, it's a keeper! WIS honeymoon

And now I can sleep sound, knowing I've at least attempted to do right by this watch... Laughing!

Thanks for lookin', y'all!

Despite being a VPMW, this is also a keeper, since I don't have anything else that even comes remotely close to filling the niche. Best part about it, for me, is the "curvex" style case. And.. dang, it occurrs to me that I should have taken a photo showing the side profile. Oops! My goof! But, trust me, it has a very pronounced curvature. I am smiling... The mother-of-pearl dial is also a nice touch...

Quite an unusual movment..

..as I can only recall seeing one other Aphel, ever. All it needed was a fresh battery & it fired right up - I haven't even cleaned it. Runs like a champ, and as soon as I come up with a nice black leather 18mm strap in XL, it will surely get some wrist time.

Many thanks, Dave! Thumbs Up! I'll drink to that.

Weeelllll -- the AL21 is a very common quartz movement (now) made by >>> Post contains linked URL  (views: 10)

[Timpani drum roll from pianissimo and crescendo to fortissimo ended by cymbal crash]

TMI (Time Module Incorporated), a subsidiary of SII (Seiko Instruments Incorporated), which is owned by The Seiko Group.
You can find it in their 2009 catalog . . . page 9, lower left corner, bottom row, 2nd from the left:
http://www.timemodule.com/se/pdf/se2009.pdf

If you ever need one, you can get them here:
Ofrei's "YL" quartz movement page, 2nd from the top. It's also known as a YL21E.
http://www.ofrei.com/page_192.html

I've a strong suspicion TMI acquired rights at some point to the Aphel, Inc. movements.

Lookin' for t'other one as you read this I am smiling...

Ah! Perhaps that's why.. (views: 6)
Ricky Lee -- April 16, 2009 02:19AM
..the module looked familiar, and "AL21" even seemed to ring a bell. I am smiling...

But Aphel Inc.? Not thick on the ground, at least not in these here parts. I am confused...

Thanks for the info John! Thumbs Up!

-Ricky

P.s. - and they must be a fairly decent movement, for Seiko to snap them up. Laughing!

Nice lot Thumbs Up! (n/t) (views: 4)
