This one was a total under-the-radar surprise..

..a 17-jewel automatic from DuFonte by Lucien Piccard, a brand almost unknown to me. Unknown brand or no, 'tis a fine looking watch that is of a style I love. WIS honeymoon

A little googling told me that Lucien Piccard is very much still around, and that Amazon.com handles the line. Prices there range from under $50 to well over $2K - quite a range!

Amazon's thumbnail bio;

Lucien Piccard watch was found in 1923 in Switzerland. Since its inception, Lucien Piccard has build a long standing repuation as "the affordable quality Swiss watch". This reputation is evident most notably in its ceramic watches. While other brands are charging many hundreds of dollars and even several thousand dollars for ceramic watches, Lucien Piccard charges a few hundred dollars for its ceramic watches. Since 1923, the very heart of each Lucien Piccard watch design has relied on the ever evolving philosophy and commitment to quality, excellence and distinction.

Amazon also prominently displays this graphic..

All in all a most pleasing design and, if you discount the cracked crystal (over the 7 o'clock marker), this example is in excellent condition.

Well.. semi-Catalog Shots, maybe. Wink, wink ... By my humble standards! I am smiling...

Isn't it ironic how, sometimes, when you're just trying to knock off a couple of quick 'n' dirties, you end up with some of your best photos ever? Crazy, man! Laughing!

When I tell you that photo is raw and un-processed, you'll perhaps see why I am so pleased with the condition of this Lucien Piccard DuFonte. WIS honeymoon Shown on a brand-new WBHQ X-Long croc-patterned calf from me cuz' Otto Frei. Best $9.48 I ever spent! Thumbs Up! I did swap on the original silver Speidel buckle, as Cousin Otto was able to supply it only wi' Gold Buckle. I am sad... Ah well, that's why I have a Salvage Yard, too. Laughing!

From the finely wrought case with its juuuust right 37mm X 41mm size, to the classic linen dial, this one's got a lot going for it. And, no, I haven't opened the back to ogle the movement. Yet! Wink, wink ... I think I'll do so soon, though, as I'm feelin' a hankerin' for my Sunday brew, and once I pop a top the Watchmaking will be over for the day.. Laughing!

If I make it out correctly, it looks like an ETA 2783? If you can confirm the markings, that will help..

Cheers
Harold

That's what I saw, too! Thumbs UP! (n/t) (Views: 10)
