While I am less than enthused about the folded-link nature in principle, I actually like this bracelet quite a lot.

On the Lip specifically.. I'm not so sure. I am confused The frownie-smiley produced by straight end-links on a curved-lug watch is no drawback for me, though I understand the abhorrence some feel for the "feature".

However, I find the bracelet to be a somewhat shiny for the Lip. After all, if you discount the hands the Croix du Sud has no polished surfaces anywhere. So the polished 2nd and 4th rows on the bracelet seem a wee bit "jarring" to me. I dunno. We'll see. Perhaps I'll come to accept it. Perhaps I'll swap the bracelet onto a more suitably-finished watch. Heck, I may even beadblast the sucker! Laughing

One thing's for sure...

"Mechanical watches are so brilliantly unnecessary. Any Swatch or Casio keeps better time, and high-end contemporary Swiss watches are priced like small cars. But mechanical watches partake of what my friend John Clute calls the Tamagotchi Gesture. They're pointless in a peculiarly needful way; they're comforting precisely because they require tending." - William Gibson

Not bad,but I think that watch is begging for some leather. Laughing (n/t)

Timemiser 26 April 13, 2012 06:01PM

If so, I can't hear it. Whistle
Honestly, I'm just not much of a Leather Fan. Oops!

Sure that's partly due to dearth of XXL straps that will actually fit me Plus Sized wrists. Blushing

But also my Home Climate. Do you really wear leather of a Georgia summer? I am confused 'cause here in Mississippi I find leather to be totally unsuitable from roughly May to September.

Ricky Lee 22 April 13, 2012 06:23PM

You are right about the leather in Summer and especially in our part of the region.
I have just switched my last watch from leather over to my Summer strap. I only wear bracelets or rubber straps in the Summer.I don't even want to wear my only nato in this climate. June through August feels like how they describe the Amazon jungle! I do not look forward to walking out the door in the morning and become instantly wet! These Maratacs are my new favorites for the humid summers here. They have the look of woven material and a comfortable feel. The best part is they're rubber! Just put one back on my Landmoster tonight.

Re: I don't even want to wear my only nato in this climate.
I consider nylon straps to be an excellent choice in hot & sticky weather. Especially those of the braided sort. They don't call them "tropics" for nothin'!

Resin / rubber straps.. well, I ken that they're a logical choice for the duty on paper. But I don't like the "slippery" feel of them when the weather turns sauna-like. Honestly, I'm not that big a fan of rubber to begin with. Perhaps 90% of the time (maybe more) I wear bracelets or nylon straps. Frequently both simultaneously. Laughing

You're a strange The Dude abides!, RL. >>
>>because I see photographic evidence that you are a 12-clasper (the normal way).

But yet, you're a known 6-buckler. (the *ahem* non-conventional way.) (As shown in your more recent post above.)

But, hey, as long as you are enjoying your wristwatches, that's what matters. Cheers! Cheers! Laughing Rolling on the floor laughing my a.. off

Ahh.. why do you call it "12-clasper"? Eek!

'cause when the clasp opens, 'tis on the 6 o'clock side. Then it pivots towards 12...

Is that the "normal way"? Honestly, I don't know! Crazy! Loco!

I just know..

...I always think of the outside "over" piece as the clasp, and the "under" parts as the deployant. Standard seems to be just the way you have yours... Every bracelet in Reto's shop is that way.

That's as Clear As Mud to me. Oops! Eek!

Searching for simplicity and uniformity: If it has a flip-over safety-lock, that hardware should lie on the 6 O'clock side. That's The Ricky Way. Smile

Well then. I am perhaps a more conventional sort than I get credit for bein', no? Wink
Ricky Lee 24 April 13, 2012 08:12PM

I think Dave is referring to the situation when the clasp is fully open.
The outer part that shows when closed (what Dave called the "clasp") will be attached to the bracelet on the 12 o'clock side of the watch.

..is indeed attached at 12 on most of my watches.

"Most", ye'll note, for there are exceptions! Witness this :

Note that the strapped is rigged "conventional" there. IOW the buckle, if it had a buckle, would be @ 12. However, with the addition of the diver's deployant, this means that the clasp shell ends up @ 6. I am confused

And, yeah, I did try to swap the strap around so that it's rigged backwards My Way. Smile However, the strap on this thing is subtly asymmetrical. Crazy! Loco! I'm not sure this is intentional - it may simply be a tolerance stack-up issue - but, while it's possible to cram it together the other way 'round, it just doesn't fit right.
Ricky Lee 21 April 14, 2012 07:46AM

Ah, I was a bit I am confused by your earlier answer. What exactly did you mean by>>>
saying most clasps are detachable at either end?

Except that on many most bracelets the clasp is detachable at either end. Crazy! Loco!

To me, it's all about which side opens, and the direction it pivots.

And I'm a pretty conventional bloke after all! Laughing

Ricky Lee 23 April 13, 2012 08:56PM

What Dan said. My point was that >>
>> that whatever advantage that you find by wearing straps in the non-conventional way (buckle at 6) somehow does not translate to bracelets.

So, I guess you are only half-way conventional. laughing

Ah, I put me pants on one leg at a time, just like y'all do. Smile

Buckle on the left.
