Many
(most?) WIS discount the lowly PC21 as being unworthy of their notice.
But it's an astonishing piece of engineering, in it's own way. Simple,
reliable, and calling it "cost effective" is like saying King Kong is a
big monkey.
There's a good reason why it's the most-used watch movement ever,
having been produced by the tens (if not hundreds!) of millions.
-Ricky
Nice work Ricky. Looks like a million bucks alright! (n/t) (Views: 13)

The current Deville uses this one. And as I recall when it came out it's like an older Omega.

Ah. Yes, quite similar, and clearly related.
Still,
the vintage bracelet on that Cosmic appears to be a much closer match -
note the way the sides of the "bricks" are slightly angled on the
modern bracelet.

I can't believe you're not tempted to do some Dave Murphy style custom dials with all those cases.
Well done, Beautiful case and bracelet, has a quality look to it. (Views: 15)
Paul J Costa -- January 18, 2010 02:06AM
A dressier type of dial, maybe champaign or silver color, with hash
marks instead of numbers along with matching hands would look perfect
in that case. That is if you are in to dress watches but it still looks
good as is.
Re: A dressier type of dial .. would look perfect in that case. (Views: 17)
Ricky Lee -- January 18, 2010 03:26AM
Oh, aye! I was thinkin' that same thing meself.
Mind you, I reckon the case itself does
work very well with a "service watch" kind of dial. But add in that
bracelet, and it would also work great with a dressier type of dial, as
you describe. Stay tuned.. I do have three of 'em left on hand, after
all.

monkeys and the time to produce a Jaeger LeCoultre.

I hesitate to say that "strings were attached" , but the Caveman Cornucopia v. 2.0 was not without a couple of.. ah, let's say expectations.
Well, really just one. And that is that a goodly portion of the finished watches from this lot will be passed along to you, the Faithful via various means, including but not limited to s. And, sure, since JohnnyT is amongst the most faithful of the Faithful, several will be going straight into his collection.
So, you see, 'tis not only I that owes JT a debt of gratitude, but the forum at large. I'm just the middleman.
So how 'bout it, y'all, let's have a big round of applause for our beloved WotY!

Indeed, you'd be hard-pressed to tell that it didn't leave the factory like this. Maybe
if you pulled the dial and looked at the edges under a loupe, but
that's the only way you could suss out it's Frankenwatch nature, I
think.

A brand-new $8 Wal-Mart loss leader.

Thanks mate!
I know it's a bit.. well, counter-intuitive to buy a brand-new watch just to gut it for parts. But when you consider the Low! Low! Wal-Mart prices , it actually makes perfect sense.
If
I build a complete going-works using equivalent parts from Otto Frei,
it would cost me a minimum of $12.95 ($4.95 module, $4 dial, $4 hands),
and potentially as much as $16.95, depending on the specific dial &
hands.
Going the Wal-Mart route is not only cheaper, but I have
a leftover crystal, SS case back and crown tube which I can use in some
future project. Win-win!
