Oh! How I love a NATO strap!

They're inexpensive, comfortable, and versatile. They'll fit nearly any watch, 'most any wrist, and they're a breeze to swap from one watch to another. Quite durable and long-lasting, just chuck 'em in the washing machine when they get grungy.

One other boon that's mentioned fairly frequently, but nevertheless isn't (IMHO!) accorded the full importance it deserves, is the extra security they offer. A springbar failure is frequently a catastrophe with 'civilian' straps and bracelets, but seldom ever more than a niggling inconvenience with a NATO.

For you that doubt it, let me tell ye a story. I stopped at a Mom-n-Pop convenience store on the way home from work today. Great store! Friendly proprietor, good prices, very well-stocked. Maybe too well stocked, as the aisles are very tight. Fat ol' boy like me has to turn sideways to get around the corners. Laughing Out Loud! Anyway, long story short, I managed to snag my watch hard on a metal display rack. Oops! My mistake!

Here's the result:

With a conventional 2-piece strap or bracelet, the watch would have definitely hit the concrete floor. eye popping smiley But with the Waterborne®, no problem at all.

Score one for the home team! thumbs up

And seriously, it hasn't happened to me but agree - a great invention.
I love my NATOs.

Thankfully, it's quite rare. I've experienced ~ maybe a half-dozen such failures, ever.

Yep, agree on all points. I do think the added security is a big bonus. winking smiley (n/t) DJM 23 April 02, 2013 07:56PM
Good save
I've only ever had one springbar let go (on a non-Nato too) but luckily I caught the watch before it parted company with my wrist. Happened right in my watchmaker's store, too!

Thing about these is that, out of the camera they were pure crap. I'm frowning

However! I decided to test out the enhanced autocorrect routines in GIMP v. 2.8.4, and somewhat to my surprise, they work pretty darned good!
thumbs up

Like a big dummy I am blushing, I did not save the originals. Crazy! Loco! In hindsight, I should have, as a side-by-comparison would have been most revealing!

Ah weel. Next time!

Nice! You just have to keep irritating >>>
my itch for a Ronda 500-series GMT!!!

Quick question. The Ronda 515.24 manual I found on line isn't very detailed, but it describes the 24-hour hand as setting by a "quick set" feature. Does that mean the 24-hour hand is synced with the regular hour hand, but adjustable in one-hour jumps?

TIA.

Nope. The 4th-hand is infinitely adjustable, so those pesky ½-Hour Timezones are nae problemo.

It's quick-set in that when you pull the crown to the First Click, rotating it clockwise quickly advances the date, and rotating it anti-clockwise quickly advances the Fourth Hand.

Now, the TY-2856..

..works that way. Advancing the GMT hand in 1-hour jumps, that is. It's a great concept, which works as well in Real Life as it does On Paper. That's one reason why it's my mostest favorite mechanical GMT movement...
