A rather wonky combo that is nevertheless working very well for me

So this rather unusual strap has been kicking around in my junk box meticulously cataloged cache of spare straps for a while. I was in there to find a new strap for a customer yesterday, and for some reason it caught my eye. A quick side-by-side comparison to an oft-worn NATO told me that it should be plenty long enough even for me. An XXL strap is a precious thing at Shamrock Hollow, not to be wasted, so I determined to find a home for it:

"Rather unusual" in that the fabric is full-on elastic, very stretchy. Nor is the color a common one. winking smiley Also, while I've seen similar closures (IOW 2-piece plastic clip-togethers), this one is unique for having the release button on the face of the clasp rather than the sides. I wish I could remember exactly when and how I obtained this strap but, alas, I can't. I am blushing All I know is that it's a freebie, obtained either in an job-lot or, more likely, a Forum Brother's donation to Ricky Lee's Home For Wayward Wristwatches. If anyone recognizes it, please chime in! Laughing Out Loud!

So what is the mystery watch to which I've fitted it? Ah! Glad you asked. None other than..

The model F30GVL full-lume field watch.

While the two shades of green are obviously not a match-made-in-heaven, at least there is a Green Theme going on.

The closure is chunky beast and, frankly, it felt a bit odd at first. I think that's because it falls spang in the center of the wrist, vs. the side of the wrist as is more usual with NATO and other "over-and-under" fabric straps. Of course that means that it's a left-wrist-only combo, not suitable for right-wrist dual-wristing as are most fabric straps. But I can live with that! After wearing it for ~ 18 hours I got to say...

..it wears Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr8! cool smiley Again, not quite like anything else in my collection. I have it set so that the elastic is under very light tension. That results in a fit that is absolutely rock-solid, no sliding about whatsoever, yet is as comfortable as a pair of well-worn jeans. thumbs up Bellissimo! WIS Honeymoon

I think it goes well with the watch and is a pleasant-to-look-at shade of green. Salut smileys with beer! (n/t) jackrobinson 41 November 25, 2012 05:24PM

It looks terrible. I hope Miss Pam won't let you out in public wearing that.
A near-match is the worst kind of clashing, IMNSHO.

Now, so as to make this constructive, let me suggest that I think that strap would work best on something with a yellow dial. A combo like that would be un-apologetically bright, but at least not clashing. Might make a good gift to a kid. Or a clown. spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

You have to consider the source with criticism, so I will admit that I'm a little Snob when it comes to matching. I never wear any of my beloved blue-dialed watches with a green shirt, for instance. I try not to wear a black-strapped watch when I'm wearing a brown belt, but I'm a little flexible on that one. I did buy one gold-plated Seiko watch just to have something that matched my wedding band. I am blushing

Looks like it may be an old shark watch strap....
Snap in looks identical....it may not be oem, but it seems to be clearly what the manufacturer was going for if not...

Thank you! I think quite a lot of and watches, so it just went up a notch in my estimation. winking smiley
