One of my everyday 'beater' watches:

Scan - front

I think my original attraction to this watch was the 16-jewel movement. Not 15, not 17, but sixteen. Don't think I've ever run across another...

I'm told that it's of ca. 1955 manufacture, and the 'waterproof' (vs. 'water resistant') nomenclature seems to bear that out.

Scan - back

I wear it on one of the spiffy deployant straps from Global Watch Band (the color of the original strap [light tan] was not to my taste and, worse, came 2 notches short of fitting my wrist). My first leather deployant, it's made a believer out of me. Very comfortable, hassle free (quick to don or doff), and a leather strap lasts much longer with a deployant clasp, I'm told, which appeals to my Inner Scotsman.

Camera - full shot

Pros:

Cons:

*Had a bloke say to me once "Did you borrow that watch from your wife?" He's a friend, so I didn't thump him. But.. sheesh. What is it about big watches? I mean, yeah, I'm a WIS, so I like a big watch just fine.

Camera - Hairy Wrist Shot

But, in certain circumstances (such as I mentioned earlier, fitting under your winter motorcycle kit), I find a big watch to be a nuisance, plain and simple. Smiley

Well this is the sort of style that makes vintage watches desirable. I note that they did not go the extra step of  putting a black enamel stripe in the middle of the hands. Instead of a suburst finish they used a linear brushing or bead-blast finish on the dial. A chapter ring is another design complication sometimes used on arabic dials. No minute marks. The overall impression of the design is one of all the extraneous stuff that was left out, design by subtraction. The lugs are excellent and even the crown looks good. The red seconds and the simplicity make me think it is a Brit watch, sort of like some Smiths clocks. I can't make out if it is EROI or ERDI or what. The lack of age/moisure marks on the dial or scratches on the case back are fortunate. Now that I look at it, it is not the size that is a problem but the fact that this watch has a definite formal tone and so is not really suited for sports wear, any more than an Rolex Submariner at the opera. (I recommend an Invicta 8926 diver.)

Another Araibic-dial watch. Out of production and hard to find IIRC. Post contains no message text  (views: 4)

I wear big watches because they are easier to see...I have 34mm and 36mm watches as well but my eyesight is worse than it was when I bought the 36mm and the 34mm is an inheritance (vintage Omega).

That said, if you were a real man you wouldn't wear those sissy watches.  Rolling On Floor Laughing My Ass Off

Never heard of that one! Nevertheless, it is a cool watch!  As for the size thing, it's a bit too small for my taste  but great for a dress watch. I usually don't go for watches under 40mm unless it is dressy and then 34-36mm will do. I'm sure it is better for fitting under a sleeve. Wear it with pride since it is a very unique watch!

> As for the size thing, it's a bit too small for my taste..

Well, it is the smallest watch I own, save for a 32mm Lorus Mickey.

But I've got several in the 36 to 38mm range and, perhaps not coincidentally, they're the watches I wear most. A bloody great watch just doesn't work for me, for the most part.

> ..but great for a dress watch.

And it is a dessy sort of watch, after all. I'm a white-collar employee, subject to a fairly stiff dress code, despite my choice of transportation and blue-collar workingmans predilections, so it works gr8 for me!

Old favorite on a new strap. Post contains Picture(s) >> Post contains Link

Last time I wore the Erdi I noticed that the strap was showing it's age. It's got a glossy finish, and had picked up several scuff marks. One of them went completely through the black tanned outer surface and revealed a grayish color underneath. Eek! Plus, I've lately become disenchanted with the silver-colored SS deployant. Hey, I admit I'm not part of the GQ set, but a gold dress watch ought to be all gold, right?

So, I'm at Wal-Mart the other night, heading for the auto aisle for oil change supplies (which, alas, means I've gotta walk by the watches Laughing out loud!), when I'm stopped dead in my tracks by a small sign that reads "Extra-Long Straps Available. New Shipment Just In". Whoa! Generally speaking, looking for a strap at Wal-Mart is, for me, an exercise in futility. This is an event akin to Hell Freezing Over! What's next? The Cubs will win the World Series? Laughing out loud!

Executive summary: I was underwhelmed. Yes, they did have a few XL's. Three, to be precise. This warranted a sign? I am confused! And none of them was a match for the Erdi. I am not happy! However, they did have a fairly good selections of Longs, including one that seemed perfect for the Erdi. A quick check showed that it was quite generous for a Long, and might work. Hey, for $5.18 inclusive I'll take a chance. Smiley

Got home, whipped 'er on:

Erdi 16J Handwind
Erdi on Timex calf strap

Yes! It fits! With one hole to spare, yet. The gold buckle adds that little something that the combo was always missing:

Timex strap
Timex calf strap

I do kinda miss the deployant, but not as much as I love the perfect match afforded by the gold buckle.

Is Happy Day!
