Amazon.com Product Description
Stylish enough for the boardroom but rugged enough for the wakeboard,
the Casio Marine stainless steel analog-digital watch for men (model
AMW320D-9EV) combines the timeless look of an analog watch with the
functionality of a digital watch. This analog digital combination
allows you to see up to 2 times or the date with day of the week. The
round silver stainless steel case measures 40mm wide, and it's
complemented by a black resin sports strap. The inner rim of the bezel
provides an Arabic numeral readout with small minute indexes, and the
gold face includes luminous hour markers, oversized luminous hands
(with seconds hand), and a digital window above the 6 o'clock mark.
Timekeeping features include dual time, a daily alarm, auto calendar,
and a 1/100-second stopwatch with a 24-hour capacity. Other features
include a ±30-second accuracy per month, scratch-resistant
mineral crystal, and water resistance to 100 meters (330
feet)--offering protection from accidental splashes as well suitable
for swimming, snorkeling, and light recreational diving.
Development of the Timepiece Business
With the launch of its first watch in November 1974, Casio entered the
wristwatch market at a time when the watch industry had just discovered
digital technology. As a company with cutting-edge electronic
technology developed for pocket calculators, Casio entered this field
confident that it could develop timepieces that would lead the market.
In developing its own wristwatches Casio began with the basic question,
"What is a wristwatch?" Rather than simply making a digital version of
the conventional mechanical watch, we thought that the ideal wristwatch
should be something that shows all facets of time in a consistent way.
Based on this, Casio was able to create a watch that displayed the
precise time including the second, minute, hour, day, and month —
not to mention a.m. or p.m., and the day of the week. It was the first
watch in the world with a digital automatic calendar function that
eliminated the need to reset the calendar due the variation in month
length. Rather than using a conventional watch face and hands, a
digital liquid crystal display was adopted to better show all the
information. This culminated in the 1974 launch of the CASIOTRON, the
world’s first digital watch with automatic calendar. The
CASIOTRON won acclaim as a groundbreaking product that represented a
complete departure from the conventional wristwatch.
Casio transformed the concept of the watch — from a mere
timepiece to an information device for the wrist — and undertook
product planning based on this innovative idea. We developed not only
time functions such as global time zone watches, but also other radical
new functions using Casio’s own digital technology, including
calculator and dictionary functions, as well as a phonebook feature
based on memory technology, and even a thermometer function using a
built-in sensor. The memory-function watches became our DATA BANK
product series, while the sensor watches developed into two unique
Casio product lines of today: the Pathfinder series displaying
altitude, atmospheric pressure, and compass readings.
In 1983, Casio launched the shock-resistant G-SHOCK watch. This product
shattered the notion that a watch is a fragile piece of jewelry that
needs to be handled with care, and was the result of Casio engineers
taking on the challenge of creating the world’s toughest watch.
Using a triple-protection design for the parts, module, and case, the
G-SHOCK offered a radical new type of watch that was unaffected by
strong impacts or shaking. Its practicality was immediately recognized,
and its unique look, which embodied its functionality, became wildly
popular, resulting in explosive sales in the early 1990s. The G-SHOCK
soon adopted various new sensors, solar-powered radio-controlled
technology (described below), and new materials for even better
durability. By always employing the latest technology, and continuing
to transcend conventional thinking about the watch, the G-SHOCK brand
has become Casio’s flagship timepiece product.
Today, Casio is focusing its efforts on solar-powered radio-controlled
watches: the built-in solar battery eliminates the nuisance of
replacing batteries, and the radio-controlled function means users
never have to reset the time. In particular, the radio-controlled
function represents a revolution in time-keeping technology similar to
the impact created when mechanical watches gave way to quartz
technology. Through the further development of high radio-wave
sensitivity, miniaturization, and improved energy efficiency, Casio
continues to produce a whole range of radio-controlled models.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the quality of the G-shock line, January 13, 2009
By N. Gibson (ATL)
I have been a more than happy with the G-Shock line of Casio watches
and assumed this one would carry some of their quality features.
Unfortunately, the rotating bezel came off after 2 months of low impact
use. This was the only part of the watch's structure that protects the
face of the watch and I fear scratches or worse are sure to follow. If
you're on the fence stick with the G-Shock.

4.0 out of 5 stars Yellow Dial Ana-Digi Casio, January 2, 2009
By J. French (Northeast United States)
I bought this watch many years ago at a Service Merchandise chain store. Anybody remember them?
I found through the years that it goes through batteries at the rate of
about one a year, often less if the alarm is used. Other than that, the
watch is comfortable, accurate, and it an excellent value for the
money. My wife accidently threw the watch away while it was on a
cluttered desktop about 2 years ago, and I replaced it with one from
Wally Mart, although there it was about $75.00. The battery lasted less
than a year, in fact it needs one now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Watch I Ever Owned - At Any Price!, December 3, 2008
By R.D. Noller (Virginia)
I bought this watch in 1995 just before being stationed in Panama. I
paid $65 for it. My scuba diving buddies bought "fancy" dive watches,
paying $700 +. More than 600 dives later, most of them had their
watches flooded with salt water or other damage and cried over how much
it had cost them. Me? I just replaced a couple of batteries, and went
through three or four bands. (I'm a little rough on watch bands. I wore
this thing day in and day out, working, diving, military duties,
banging it around, etc. with absolutely NO problems! When I left in in
a shower room at the beach last July and only realized it after driving
for over four hours, I was devastated. I LOVE this watch! Neither of
the other watches I have hold a candle to it, though they cost well
over twice as much. After almost 6 months, I still miss this watch, so
I'll be buying another soon. Sure, my "old dive friend" is in someone
else's hands now, but I'll be glad to have a new version. Best darned
watch I've ever owned regardless of price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't go wrong with this watch, November 12, 2008
By Tom "Tom" (Marietta, GA)
I bought this watch back when it was a relatively new design 18 years
ago. Since then it has been diving in three oceans, been dropped off a
three story building, seen lots of international travel (pressure
changes), been through rain, snow and heat.
It is on its third or fourth battery and about that many bands. The watch itself has been perfect.
When I worked in an office, the serious watch collectors in management
would ask what it was and comment that they liked the style of the
watch. It would hold their full attention until they figured out it was
a Casio and not some new Brietling design. Of course, it was nice to
hear the compliments despite the fact this watch cost 1/12th of the
SALES TAX on a new Brietling.
It's flawless, looks good, and cheap enough to be a "throw away." But,
you'll probably become attached to yours, as I have mine. I love the
Watch.

5.0 out of 5 stars I have owned mine for over 15 years!, October 27, 2008
By Jeff B. Schnee (Long Island NY)
The watch has gone on over 100 deep water dives (down to 120'). Due to
the saltwater use, I find that I have to replace the rubber watchband
every year or two (bands can be found at Wallmart, Target, etc.). I
change my own batteries. The watch tool to open the rear costs $10 and
is well worth it. I lightly lube the rubber seal with oil before
replacing the back. The watch is still watertight. Mine is now a bit
banged up as I never take it off (used while repairing cars, surfing,
household chores, etc.) It still keeps great time, but I'm considering
purchasing a new one as my crystal has a few scratches and I'm afraid
that Casio my discontinue this model after all these years.
I keep the analog watch set to EST and the digital to GMT (as I have friends in the UK).

5.0 out of 5 stars A classic watch all around, September 3, 2008
By Mark B. (Burton, Ohio)
Bought my first over twenty years ago. Took a very long time to kill
it, including many hundreds of dives. Lost it's successor while boogie
boarding last week and really didn't expect to find a replacement.
Looked for another watch with the same elegance, simplicity, toughness,
and multiple functions (I use every one), but just wasn't seeing it in
any other model. I was excited to find my third one on Amazon and
delighted when it arrived. Pleased not just for the return of what has
become a natural extension of my arm - but also because the workmanship
is even better, including a more luminescent dial (brighter, holds
light longer) and a bezel action that's smoother and tighter than ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great watch with a few caveats..., August 29, 2008
By Steve in Memphis "Steve in Memphis" (Memphis Tennessee)
I have had my watch for about 4 years now and I love the way that it
looks and its functionality. It has most features that you might want,
BUT...
1. The strap DOES come off fairly easily. This isn't usually a problem,
but I worry about it when I am in the water. It has come off
inadvertently about three times since I have had the watch.
2. The dial is not very easy to see at night or in low light.
3. The original strap broke, and I replaced it with one that I bought
at the mall. Most non-metal watch bands seem to be this cheap plastic
that eventually will break. I would love to have an actual Neoprene
strap instead of the cheap plastic ones that are so common.
Aside from those issues, I have really enjoyed the watch both for its
looks and functionality. The yellow dial looks really sharp when you
are wearing navy, green, or yellow. The alarm, stopwatch and dual time
functions are very useful. I also like the rotating bezel for timing
things quickly and easily. I was glad to read the review that said that
the reviewer had actually used it for diving to 90 feet. Even if a
watch is water resistant to 100 meters, it may not be designed for the
pressure changes involved in diving, so that figure can be misleading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best watch I ever owned!, July 31, 2008
By R.D. Noller (Virginia)
I bought this watch in 1995 before going to Panama on a 3-yr military
tour. Over 12 1/2 years, I put over 600 dives on it, including
recreational, crime scene investigation, and many recovery dives
including in highly contaminated waters. I replaced the battery maybe
three times. I wore this watch daily and beat the heck out of it,
replacing only the battery and the band. I finally even put a stainless
steel band on it to make it look a little more "civilized." True,
during its last 6 months or so, it started to stop for a few minutes
once in a while. I hate the fact that I left it in the shower at the
beach last month. I've now found a place to buy a replacement, even
though it won't have the sentimental value...

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice watch for the money. , July 9, 2008
By L. Stapor (Mississippi)
I bought this watch for my husband because he complained that his dress
watch was getting scratched at work. He also loves to wakeboard and
wanted something sporty that he could wear to the lake and in the
water. He gets compliments on this watch all the time and he loves it.
Very durable, sporty, well made. He likes the timer feature also very
much. He now wears this watch more than his expensive dress watch. I am
pleased of the quality for the price. You can't beat it!

4.0 out of 5 stars very big, heavy, attractive watch, March 13, 2008
By theskeptic "theskeptic" (Jersey)
I thought this was one of the nicer analog-digital watches with a
reasonable price. Be aware that it is a *very* big and heavy watch;
bigger than many of those watches that have three or four dials. I have
to keep the band fairly tight to stop it from slipping around when I
move my hand. Also note that the watch has no light, although the hands
and markers glow in the dark.
The band is plastic, which strikes me as being a little down-scale for
this watch. I plan to replace it with leather. If the watch holds up, I
would say it's a nice buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Casio AMW320 - Diver's watch, February 8, 2008
By Benjamin Tong (SE Michigan)
I love this watch. I received it as a graduation present 15 years ago
and it served me flawlessly all that time. Of course, you need to
replace the battery every other year or so. And the rubber wrist band
eventually tears and you replace that. Also, early on, when someone
replaced the battery for me, they either didn't replace the rubber
gasket, or didn't replace it properly, but it was no longer completely
watertight. Submerging the watch in a pool or in the sink would cause
condensation to show up on the inside face. But it still kept time
properly.
Otherwise, a fantastic watch. It is difficult to find the combination
of analog hands and digital date, which I fell in love with on this
model. I recently lost my watch and had to replace it. As some other
reviewer noted, the only difference I can tell between my original and
this is that they moved the other button from the lower right to the
upper left. I hope to get another 15 years of service from this one.
This one ran $75 at Target.

4.0 out of 5 stars Review-Dial Color, Battery Life, January 14, 2008
By J. French (Northeast United States)
I once owned of these great for the money watches. I have noticed that
the dial color is now more of a rose gold color instead of the yellow
dial that I had. I put it on the desk one day years ago because the
battery died, and never wore it again. It did go through batteries,
about one every 10-11 months, but I used the daily alarm. I recently
cleaned up the room the watch was in and believe it got thrown out
inadvertently. I might just get another one to go with my collection of
divers.

By Bud's Mom (Hoopa, CA)
My boyfriend doesn't usually wear a watch, but because he mtn bikes a

it's a little big and bulky. If your guy is on the skinny side, this
watch might look to big on his wrist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tough as Nails!, January 3, 2008
By Rod Londe (Ski Utah, United States)
In the last 13 years I've owned three of these Casios. The first one
lasted three years before I wrecked a mountain bike and shattered the
crystal. The second got lost after about 5 years, and the third is
still going strong. I wear my watches on the underside of my wrist so
needless to say, they get abused. The stock rubber strap has long since
deteriorated so I replaced it with a Maratac 2 piece nylon band and it
is more comfortable than original. The crystal is pretty scratched, but
the dial is still very legible. Judging by the nicks and dings in the
bezel and crown, you'd expect this watch to quit working but it keeps
going and going. It is a real workhorse of a watch. My only plans for a
different time piece is a Casio G-Shock Mudman or a Casio Dura 200
Super Illuminator. But that probably won't happen until this one quits.
I'm not holding my breath...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great watch while they last, December 29, 2007
By Ecklund "-DE-" (Northern Wisconsin)
This is my third watch of this kind (I'm a little tough on equipment).
Looks great, feels substantial, waterproof. Only shortcoming I see is
that most department stores won't change the battery for you, so either
it goes back to Casio for service, or you need access to a decent
jeweler.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Value for the Price, December 29, 2007
By Gene P. Louie (Seattle)
Here are the good things on this watch:
1. PRICE: I purchased mine for $49.99, a terrific value.
2. FEATURES:
...a. It tells digital and analog time.
...b. You can set two different times in digital. If you add these to
the analogy time keeping feature, it is like having three watches in
one.
...c. Digital time can be set at 12- or 24-hour format.
...d. It has a stop watch, daily alarm, and calendar.
...e. The clock face is huge and has a rotating directional compass.
...f. A two year battery life is acceptable.
...g. It is one of the few Casio watches that has a second hand.
3. UNIQUE FEATURES:
...a. The white time markings glow in the dark. As a result, you can tell time inside a pitch dark room, car, or outside.
...b. Unlike other gadget filled Casio watches, the features are easy to operate.
...c. This watch has a long history and has proven itself as a classic. Previous models were rugged and long lasting.
...d. It looks and feels "solid" and "well constructed," even thought it is manufactured in China.
Here are the bad things on this watch.
1. The digital window should be twice as large. The small numbers are hard to read for people over age 40.
2. Relocate the digital window by 0.25 inch up. Its present bad location eliminates the white time markings for 5, 6, and 7.
3. Put numbers on the hour markings. Just white hourly markings in triangle and dot format are inadequate.
4. Increase the alarms to three or more.
5. Increase the battery life to 10 years.
6. The watch case is too thick and heavy. It needs to be thinner and lighter. Having a titanium case would be perfect.
7. Have an hourly time signal.
8. Gold triangle markings on the directional compass for West, East, and South are needed.
9. A count down timer with an alarm signal and vibration alert is essential for a diver's watch
10. How long this watch will last is up to speculation. Because it is
made in China, the quality is definitely poorer than the usual
expectation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Workhorse Watch, December 17, 2007
By B. Kilkelly "conchfever"
The Casio Chronograph watch (AMW320D-9EV) is a great everyday to casual
dress watch. This is my second Casio Chronograph watch same great
style. I bought the first watch about 1999/2000,wore it almost daily
and put it thru 'hell' (swimming, yardwork, business, etc.). Never had
an ounce of problem, just replaced the battery once and replaced the
band every so often. Everything worked fine until an accident involving
the ocean, not the watch's fault but my mistake. I was afraid that the
style of watch could not be replaced, but to my surprise I found the
Chronograph watch was still available. I look forward to many years of
service from my new 'friend'.

You can't beat the quality and design for the price! The watch goes

I bought my first Casio Diver's watch with the gold face years ago. I
wore the heck out of it, and eventually, the band broke. I must have
hunted for a replacement band or a whole new watch but to no avail. A
long-time friend then just sat in a drawer. Recently, I found these
watches were still available so I got a new one. I even found a
replacement band (made by Timex) for my original watch. I must say I
once again feel whole again. This watch has timeless styling and
wonderful functionality in a very reasonable priced watch. I'm thinking
about getting the black and the white ones so I can switch it up from

4.0 out of 5 stars bottom of a nuclear silo, August 24, 2006
By M. Maxwell "Nuclear Film" (Abilene, TX)
This watch was great. I really loved the digital feature residing in the analog face.
I don't know about others out there but analog watches are the only way
to go. I love the fact that I can visually see what time it is in a
graphical representation, but I love having the digital features such
as the alarm, timer, stopwatch, and date feature.
I wore the watch 24/7 and it never ever gave me a problem, however,
when I was filming an independent film within a west texas silo I lost
the watch climbing the ladder out. I was climbing a straight vertical
steel pipe ladder and as I reached the top hatch, which lead to the top
landing, my watch face caught on the side of the steel ladder and the
band pins broke. Next thing I knew I heard a "plop" and new my
wonderful watch was on its way to the bottom of a 120 foot watery
depth!!
I will probably get another one but I really would love one with a metal band!

price was great - I love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars I like it but...., July 30, 2006
By Philip J. Kommer (Chicago)
Overall the watch is awesome. I do actually use it when diving, though
it is only rated as water "resistant" and not waterproof. I can say it
holds up to at least 90 feet. The dial is very readable at depth, the
digital display however is not. The multifunction display has no
backlight and at times can be hard to make out, even on land. The
display does have luminescent hands and numbers that can be make out
with no problem. Very comfortable and functional.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great watch, July 9, 2006
By Delta Pilot (Atlanta, GA USA)
I first got one of these when it was issued to me in the Air Force back
in the early 1990's. As a fighter pilot (former) I've busted more
watches in cockpits than most but this one held up. Now that I'm in the
more sedate confines of an airline cockpit, I still wear it. It has
dual time zones and an alarm, perfect for international travel. Beware,
it's a BIG watch! If that's not your style, you may want to see one in
person before you buy. The only drawback... the plastic/rubber band
will crack after 2+ years and need replacement. I put a nice leather
band on mine and even had a passenger compliment me on my "Breitling".
When I told him it was a Casio and cost $4950 less, he wanted one too.

By Michael Metz "mimetz" (Saratoga, CA United States)
With a name like that I should have been aware. Have been an amazon
customer for over 5 yrs, and have never dealt with a crooked seller
before, but this seller never sent my watch, should be banned from
amazon! Didn't pay attention, used one click and assumed I was buying
direct from amazon, got hosed, buyer beware.

5.0 out of 5 stars High quality and good looking.,, June 9, 2006
By Jon Almada (Shingle Springs, CA USA)
I just received my Casio Diver's watch and wore it to work today. It
received a number of compliments, but I really liked the dual analog
and digital functionality that combine to make a truly classic watch.
I'm a collector of timepieces, but this one is truly set to be my
regular watch to wear all the time. This is my first Casio watch and if
this is the regular quality of their watches, I'll be looking into
other models from them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just picked one up, May 10, 2006
By John (TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
I just bought one of these watches. It is a nice watch and feels solid
and is well-built. The rubber-type strap is decent and I can't see
anything bad in it. I like all the functions on this watch (date,
alarm, chronograph, diver bezel, etc., etc.). Has it all. The metal
base or housing piece is solid too. All-in-all a nice, solid watch (you
can't of course tell from the web site how heavy the watch is, but it
feels more solid than the image might suggest, and to me feels similar
to my $ 250 Casio dive watch, albeit a not quite as heavy. In other
words: perfect for summer, when you want something a bit lighter on
your wrist. One thing I noticed is how BRIGHT it is in the dark. I
pulled into the parking garage and literally said, "Wow !" out loud the
first time I saw it in the dark. It has a luminosity that rivals that
of my Luminox tritium watches. Very impressed by that.

5.0 out of 5 stars 10 Years, March 1, 2006
By C. Ou "Mind-Trekker" (Ohio)
I have had this watch for ten years.
When I was in military service, it is the only watch I trust. It wakes me up, withstands lots of abuse, and never lets me down.
What can you say?
A 60 dollar something watch for 10 years?
I will purchse this watch again.

By Lord of Shepley Manor "Shepley" (Charlotte NC USA)
A replacement for the same previous Casio alarm, chronograph, waterproof
model which failed after about 15 years of abuse. I liked the old one
so much I looked on the net for a direct replacement and found it!
Great watch, very quick service, great price. Is there anything else?

2.0 out of 5 stars Too much hype?, October 22, 2005
By G. Delgado "gadmd2" (Seattle, WA United States)
True, it is nice to have analog and digital. True, the watch looks nice
in a rough-kinda way. However it stops there: looks. This is actually a
delicate watch for its appearance. Read prev reviews and you will learn
about the tendency for hands to fall off. And after you change your 1st
battery you better not get any water close to it. Mine works
intermittently. First I thought it was the battery, so I had it changed
but to no avail, it still works when it wants to. My much cheaper Timex
has needed no battery replacement after 2 years, it also has analog and
digital and I have even scuba dived with it and it is still going.

5.0 out of 5 stars Men's Casio Divers Watch, October 11, 2005
By Richard B. "415Coupe" (Georgia)
This is my third purchase of this same watch in the past ten years. I
am very hard on watches and beat the heck out of them. I keep
forgetting to remove them when working on Airplanes and auto engines
etc. I dropped one and the second hand fell off which jammed the works.
The other two still work but look like heck. Bands are lousey and break
in short order so get a new band to replace it and keep it handy. Price
from Target was $20 cheaper than Wally world and that included
shipping. Some complain of not getting a good seal when replacing the
battery and that will allow moisture into the watch and fog up the
crystal. If you are VERY carefull and use the tinniest bit of vasoline
to hold the O-ring in place when reinstalling the back it will seal
just fine. Also, don't open it up on a wet and humid day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this watch., September 27, 2005
By MK (Trinidad)
I bought this watch about 10 years ago and it has been on my hand about
99.99% of the time - including in rivers and in the ocean. It recently
started to give me some problems with the digital display fading out
from time to time.
I was amazed that this model is still available and I am gong to buy a new one.
The analog display looks good and the digital window allows me to
display the date all of the time. Unlike mechanical watches that only
have a date/day display this watch does not have to be reset every
month that does not have 31 days.

too funny that the other reviews were much like my own opinions.
i own a $6000 rolex, but my casio died recently when the time adjust
went awry. i wore this watch for essentially 14 years, and wore it on
all sorts of different occasions.
for the price, and for the value, it is second to none. you need a big
wrist tho, as its a big watch. i have looked at hundreds of watches
since then, but keep coming back to this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars For 16 Years the Closest Thing to Me, August 29, 2005
By AJH
I've had my AMW320D-9EV since purchasing it at age 15 and it's spent
more time with me than anything else. Yes, you do have to break the
seal to replace the battery, and the compass point ring fell off six
years ago (making it perhaps more appropriate for casual wear), but
this watch has been unparalleled and I am considering buying another as
a backup. I fully recommend it to anyone considering it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mine just died, January 27, 2005
By Randall Black (Irvine, CA USA)
After about seven years of great service, my wrist now bears a dead
AMW320D (great name, eh, really trips off the tongue). I went in for my
third battery replacement and the jeweler told me that corrosion had
eaten away at the movement. The first time I replaced the battery I
learned that the seal had to be broken and the watch might no longer
resist water. The soft rubbery plastic strap died long ago, replaced by
a superior twist-o-flex-style metal wrist band.
Now you might think I'm dissatisfied. But I intend to order another the
minute (or so -- I don't have a working watch) I finish writing this
review. Why? It has been a great watch. Analog plus digital gives me
easy-to-read intuitive time checking, along with all the bells and
whistles of silicon: multiple times, alarm, stop watch, and calendar.
The outer ring on the face lets me rotate the "north" arrow to a future
time, say 45 minutes from now, and I know time's up when the minute
hand gets there. (I have no idea why the face ring has compass points
and degrees marked on it -- to fool one's friends?) The watch has been
rugged, holding up to the shock of using hoes and axes, although I
didn't push my luck if I remembered to take it off.
I'm looking at my old friend, now motionless and blank, and figure he
had a pretty good run. Time's up for this timepiece, at a cost of a
little more than $10 per year. Since I bought the last one on display
at Mervyn's, I didn't get a box or manual and didn't even know what it
was called AMW320D until looking it up on the web just now. AMW320D I
didn't even know your name all these great years together.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of both watch worlds, December 24, 2004
By Pepper (Bluegrass, KY)
This Marine Gear has become one of my favorite watches of all time. And
take this from an enthousiastic collector who's tried out quite a few
watches. If you're like me, you might like to alternate at times
between analog and digital watches. I find myself using an analog watch
about 60% of the time because they look great and it's easy to see how
much time you've got left. On the other hand, digitals get about 40% of
my wrist time, especially when I'm in a casual, sport, or technical
mode.
Well, here's a watch that's the best of both worlds. With this Marine
Gear, Casio has a real classic "diver" watch both in form and function.
In function, this watch has all the classical functions I like in in
the digital line-up: stopwatch, alarm, hourly beep, and date. The
digital time and dual time has come in handy, especially travelling. In
fact, with the analog hands, you can have three time zones on your
watch at once. Also, it is easy to synchronize the digital and analog
seconds. In the analog department, the hand are the easy to
see-at-a-glance oversized diver fashion. The hour markers are made to
show up in the dark. My only disappointment is that the luminosity
lasts only for an hour so in the dark; it won't get you through the
night. But that's only a minor let-down.
As to form, here's a real classic look in the world of water sport and
divers watches. I've found that the hefty steel case, elapsed-time
ring, canary yellow dial, and wide black divers strap make a really
attractive and tough-looking wrist accessory that get lots of remarks
like, "great watch!" from friends.
I first noticed this Marine Gear in about 1989 and immediatly thought,
"Wow, gotta get this watch!" (In those days, the first Marine Gears has
the function pushers at 8 and four rather than at 8 and 10 on the
latest models.) Even though that watch is still working fine after
about 15 years, I got a couple of others too. In the mid-90's, Casio
put out a models with black and white dials and steel band. I like them
too, though I wear them with the the black divers bands which still
seem readily available as replacements. However, after all, I think the
Yellow dial model is still the coolest.
Take it from a watch freak who thinks the bigger the better, if you're
into the divers style in watches, you'll come to like the size and heft
of this Casio and its tough indesructability and maybe come to think
too that is one of the greatest of all time.

5.0 out of 5 stars I can finally buy a new one after 10 years, September 23, 2004
By A Customer
I have had this watch since 1994 (Ten Years) and it finally stopped
working. This watch has been through more than most people will do in a
life time. If you are looking for a watch that is going to last, this
is the one.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Duckman, July 24, 2004
By C. Garred "The Duckman" (Indiana)
Watch is beautiful and looks good in an adventurous or casual
environment with it's gold face. It is a bit heavier than many sport
watches (i.e. Casio, Suunto, etc.) with resin bands. As far as the
resin band, it tends to split after months of use necessitating
replacement. I've owned two of these watches in five years and have
cycled through 6 watchbands.
Overall, the watch is a good value, and even after battery replacements waterproof integrity has not been compromised.
Give us a more durable band Casio. If you did this, the AMW320D-9EV Analog/Digital Watch would be a superlative watch.

5.0 out of 5 stars I've had two, May 3, 2004
By J. Whealton "Paratrewpr" (Central Florida, USA)
After replacing the battery for the second time (they last about 3-4
years), my watch had a moisture problem and I couldn't get the fog out
of it... the o-ring probably wasn't sealed well. So I gave that one up
and bought another just like it. I've had this one for about 4 years
now and still think its the perfect watch. It has the digital window
with dates, alternate times, and stop watch yet still has an attractive
traditional watch style. The only drawback to the standard features is
the band... I've found that it lasts only about a year and a half
before it breaks... you will definitely want to get a fabric sports
band when the stock one gives out.
- edit 9feb06 - Just wanted to edit this post (nearly two years later)
to let readers know I am now on my third one! My second one is now
about 6 years old I guess and had some scratches on the glass and bezel
and was looking a bit too beat up to be wearing out on the town. My
wife was looking for another Christmas gift for me and saw that I had
this on my Amazon wish list so she got it for me. I noticed when she
gave it to me that it had a slightly more dark golden face with
significantly more luminescent hour markers than my old one. I don't
know if this was a tweak by Casio or because my old one just faded.
Either way, I really like the new look. So now I have one for the field
and one for the town. I still think its a great watch.
And to answer a comment by another reviewer about the compass dial, it
can be used with the sun and your hour hand to help find direction.
Point your hour hand at the sun and half way between the hour hand and
12:00 is, roughly, south (in the northern hemisphere). The compass dial
can be used from there to get approximate bearings. Google "survival
and finding direction" and you'll get a better explanation than I can
give I'm sure.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good water sports watch (man's sizeing), April 22, 2004
By A Customer
My only hesitation is that I'm on my second watch. The way it died was
that the second hand appeared to "stick" and with in one day I had to
reset it 3 times. They are inexpensive, which is why I didn't opt to
repair it, and the first watch lasted about 2 years which is pretty
good value considering what I paid for it. If you'd rather have a metal
band you can order one from one of the casio watch suppliers on the web
if you can't find it here.
The watch originally came in three faces, white, black and gold. The
gold face is by far the prettiest. The plastic band is very high
quality. Normally I would have expected it to not last for those two
years, but it was showing no signs of wear. (Plastic watch bands nearly
all break at the spot where the clasp goes through the band eventually)
The only real complaint is that the symbol for daily alarm vs the
hourly alarm are confusing. The hourly alarm is the "alarm bell" and
the daily alarm is a "dotted bar" But once I read the manual it was
clear which was which.
The dual time feature is also cool. In fact you can have 3 time's on
the watch, if you set the analog face to a different time zone than the
digital time, however the digitial time is the one that controls the
alarms.
So the fact I bought a second watch says something about it. Nice watch, good value.
:Update!
I've gone through 2 of these. They are a good value. The battery does
last about a year or so if you use the alarm occasionally. But when it
fails, both failed the same way, the second hand just stops. Then
you'll look at the analog time and it will be off by a 1/2 hr or so.
But by now the watch is running again. First time it happened I
replaced the battery thinking that was it, and it ran for 6 months then
did it again. So I bought the second watch and put the first in a
cabinate. Well I looked at it a year later and it was perfectly on
time, so I started wearing it again. Lasted another 3 years, with more
replacement batteries. Then the second one quit and I've switched away
to another watch.
It's not that I don't like this watch, I do, but I can't have it just
"losing" a 1/2 randomly so I always wore it so I could see both digital
time and analog time. And of course it kept perfect time for a long
time...
Still I'm considering getting another for the weekend when I won't mind so much if I knock it about.
