Talk about synchronicity.. would you believe I recently lamented the lack of a Bulova in me collection, and have been actively shopping for a Bulova? Then, out of the blue, this shows up in me mailbox... I am confused...

A Bulova Sea King Day-Date Automatic, ca. 1971. Is Happy Day!

It features an all stainless-steel case, 34mm X 39mm X 12mm thick, and is 17.5mm between the lugs (!). The dial color, while not apparent from the photo, is a beautiful deep charcoal gray. Jus a wonderful example of early-70's watchmaking in general, and Bulova in particular.
Thumbs UP!

Alas I'm having a brain fart, and can't figure out how to set the date.. day is no problem, but 'tis NOT quick set, nor even a 2-step crown as far as I can see. Hey! We'll figure it out sooner r later! Laughing!

Addendum: concerning the Day/Date setting - as Marc suggests below, the "forward-to-3, back-to-9" semi-quickset method we're all familiar with does work with this Bulova. What threw me is that, while doing this, the Day will alternate back and forth, too. Trick is to get the Day where you need it first, then do the Date. Simple, once you get the hang of it, if not exactly convenient. I am smiling

by doing the going past midnight, backing up to 8 or 9 or 10 and then again past midnight dance. Just don't go back far enough to change the day, it does get tricky with those types.

Cheers,

-Marc

Yeah, I know it's Sunday.. but I did shoot these photos yesterday evening.. 's just that the Budweisers caught up to me before I had a chance to post 'em. R O T F L M A O !!!! I'll drink to that.

First the poor neglected li'l Bulova Whale, of which I had not a single worthy photo. Bad news is most looked like this..

Bulova Whale

..with the dial washed out and all. Or too dark, like this one..

I was able to salvage this one by dint of a little post processing with Gimp...

Pretty accurate representation of the watch, that one.
