2.0 out of 5 stars Soft Crystal!, February 26, 2012
By
A. E. Smith "Fatal Ace" (West Coast, USA)

I write very few reviews and really only do so when I am pleasently surprised by a product, or, as in this case, I am sadly disappointed. I purchased this watch just to wear around the house as an inexpensive timepiece. I wanted a watch with a fairly large display, an alarm and good night lighting. The first thing I noticed when the watch arrived was that it, and its band, are both very light weight and feel kind of "cheap". I wasn't concerned about that since it was just meant to be an informal, knock-around watch. I adjusted the band, set the time, date, etc., which were all very straight-forward standard digital watch type tasks. The watch looks fairly nice, does have a decent sized display and the indiglo system is simply the best night-lighting system out there.

Now for the bad news, the first issue is that the display has a kind of "shadow" that obscures the upper 1/2 inch or so of the display unless you are viewing it in direct light or with the indiglo system. For me, that means I keep having to move the watch around so the light will hit it right in order to read the day/date function. Okay, more of an annoyance then a big deal and for the price I could let that slide. Unfortunately, I bumped (and I do mean lightly "bumped") the watch against a door frame when carrying some laundry into our bedroom. I didn't think much of it until I looked down to see a large abrasion across the face of the crystal. I thought it was just a smudge and wiped the face of the watch down with a soft cloth, only to find the abrasion was actually gouged into the face of the crystal! I could literally feel the abrasion with my finger as I ran it across the face of the watch. This resulted from a light bump against a soft-wood door frame on the first day of ownership! Far more then a mere scratch, this looks like a big abrasion similar to what road-rash looks like on skin. The "abrasion" is right across the middle of the watch face and badly distorts the time display, making it difficult to read. Bottom-line, my two day-old watch now looks worse than my 25 yr-old $10 Casio that it was meant to replace.

So beware! The crystal on this watch is ridiculously soft and is likely to become scratched or abraded quite easily, not something you would want in a basic utility watch. Come-on Timex, I can forgive the cheap band, I can forgive the less than perfect display, but sheesh - raise the price of the watch a buck or so and provide it with a crystal that will at least stand up to the day to day bumps and bruises a man's watch is going to face!

5.0 out of 5 stars Really good, February 1, 2012

I'm fairly hard on watches - bumping/banging them, scratch crystals, getting chemicals on them, etc.

My last one lasted 7 years - without a battery change.

I ordered two of these.

1.0 out of 5 stars Timex Train Wreck, January 22, 2012

Timex should be ashamed of themselves. Here they sell you a watch that literally falls from your wrist because the metal band comes apart.

The watch is GREAT...the band sucks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Still a pretty nice watch! Timeless, you might say..., January 9, 2012
By
K. Dommer (NW Indiana USA)

I originally bought this same watch model years ago. I don't remember exactly how long ago, but it was probably at least 7 or 8 years ago, possibly more.

I always wear a watch (even to bed) and my original Atlantis 100 saw a lot of use. While much of the printing on it was gone from the face area (no "Atlantis" to be found) and some of the silver paint was wearing from the watch body, the rest of the watch held up very well: The band, the 'window', etc.

I've owned many watches throughout my life and this has been one of my favorite. The old one kept very excellent time. We have clocks where I work that get synced often and I don't think I ever had to adjust the time on my watch, right down to the second. It's sad, but I notice this kind of stuff! I was always pleased to see how accurate it was.

When looking to replace it (only because the battery was starting to get weak causing the Indiglo backlight to be a bit dim), I decided to go with what I know and get the same watch after stumbling on it on Amazon. After that many years of service... like many others, it just seems silly to replace the battery when it is starting to show wear anyway.

Appearance wise, I would say it is nearly identical to the old watch. The band is slightly different but not in any way that affects the quality at all.

However, I have noticed one relatively minor thing within seconds of removing it from the box: While the overall viewing angle of the watch is not bad, it is not as good as the old one. I can still see it fine, but depending on the angle my wrist happens to be at in relation to my eyes, sometimes the display is a little bit dimmer than it could be. Of course this is easily remedied by angling the watch a fraction away from my eyes. But the old one did not exhibit this behavior at all. Again, no big deal but I figured I'd mention it.

Overall I'd still recommend this watch! I'm a bit picky when it comes to time accuracy and I hope that this one is as good as the old version. Only time will tell*.

* My apologies for the incredibly bad pun.

Update 3/8/12: Having had this watch for about 3 months now, I've concluded that it doesn't keep time as accurately as my older version of this same watch. As mentioned above in my original review, we have clocks at work that I know are accurate and I've had to adjust this watch several times now and never (ever) had to adjust the time on my old watch other than for DST. As I type this, it is 25 seconds behind and I last adjusted it a few weeks ago. As also mentioned above, I am picky when it comes to watch accuracy but I am also reasonable. Most people probably don't care or wouldn't notice if it is losing 25 or so seconds a month. For that reason I will leave it at my original 4-star rating even though I'm a bit disappointed that it doesn't retain time as perfectly as my old watch, which was essentially identical. Not a deal-breaker but when this one starts dimming due to a low battery (hopefully in another 7 or 8 years!) I may look for something different even if this model is still around.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Watch, December 31, 2011

I haven't had a problem with the watch since I bought it. Everything works as advertised. It's a good looking watch with buttons that function very well.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not very pleased...., December 26, 2011
By
Cassie
I ordered this watch as a Christmas present for my grandson, and it wasn't too successful. He loved the watch, but the band doesn't work properly. When he puts it on, the final section of the watch band won't lock into place. I'll take it to a local watch shop to see what it will cost to correct it, but this experience has taught me that buying something sight-unseen probably isn't the best way to go....

3.0 out of 5 stars substandard, December 7, 2011

I thought I was replacing my Timex with, I thought, the same model that was lost. The band was so flimsy that the pins would slid out of the watch. the watch itself appeared to be the same as previous owned.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Affordable, Solid Watch With One Drawback, December 1, 2011
By
NwappMX7 (VA, US)

This watch is affordable and has a long battery life. It has good features, a nice display and is easy to use and set the time for - in either 12 or 24 hour time. It also has a stop watch function and can display two times, so you can switch between time zones if you want (or between normal and daylight savings time). This Timex is generally reliable and durable...

...except for the band, which is made of metal and really fragile rubber bits that have the unfortunate tendency to dry up and crack apart, leaving your watch unable to interface successfully with your wrist. Mine actually broke after about two months - I went and bought another band for this and now it serves me perfectly. My recommendation if you want a good solid watch is to buy this and get a cheap nylon cloth band along with it for when the original inevitably breaks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Atlantis T77517 is great, October 25, 2011
By
Paul A.

This will be the third Atlantis T77517 that I have owned. Great watch. The buttons work well and I can time-up or down with the counters. I love the price. I am in building/construction maintenance and these have been wonderful in enduring the beating they get. When the battery gives out, I buy a new one since the watch by this time looks beat-up, but it was still running until the battery gave out. I highly recommend this watch. I like the T77517 over the model with the vinyl strap. The T77517 has a stainless ribbed band that breathes. Vinyl bands give me a rash from when I sweat. I believe you won't be disappointed in this waterproof rugged watch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Long Time Favorite, October 18, 2011
By
Lee

This watch exactly matches one which I have worn every day for the past many years. The old one still works but is quite beat up. The stainless steel band is a lot more convenient than a plastic strap and buckle. The metal band does not irritate my wrist as a plastic one would. Very pleased to find this replacement.

By

This is my 3rd Timex,.....always reliable,...one problem, don't like the clasp band it comes with, never fits correctly, an expandable band would be better
had to go to a jewelers for a new band.

This is an excellent watch. The time is easy to read but the date is often in the shadows so is difficult to read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Atlantis Time, July 29, 2011

I like this very nice watch, looks good, keeps excellent time, and fits well although it is tough getting the band over my XL hands.

Delivery took too long and the tracing system was very poor.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent enough watch, but Amazon's 'Product Specifications' is not fully accurate., May 26, 2011
By
Joe K. "KDOG's Domain" (Hawaii)
This watch is pretty good. It looks nice and keeps good time. However, the 'Product Specifications' that Amazon states for this watch is not fully accurate.

Examples:

- the Dial Window Material type is claimed to be Mineral, but it seems to be plastic, as it scratches easier than my Casio, which does have a mineral dial window;

- the Case Material is NOT Stainless Steel; it's appears to be plastic or resin that's been painted silver;

- the Band Material is not fully stainless-steel, but a combination of stainless-steel and plastic or rubber connectors between links. However, the band is comfortable.

The Indiglo illumination is good, but you have to hold the button in to keep it on; when the button is released, the light goes off. Not sure if this is done to conserve battery life? There is a way/setting to make it so that the Indiglo stays on for about 3 seconds after the button is pushed, but it then allows ALL the buttons to activate the Indiglo illumination. I would have preferred to keep it to just the one (upper left) watch button.

If one is looking for a real stainless-steel cased, mineral dial windowed watch, this one isn't for you. I guess this watch was cheaper in price because it has more plastic than stainless-steel. However, apparently one gets what one pays for, and overall (for the price), this watch is a nice one, is comfortable to wear and keeps good time. Just be forewarned of the differences in its posted specs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid Everyday Watch, April 11, 2011
By
Frank C. (The Garden State, USA)

It's a good watch for everyday wear. The first thing I noticed is how light it is. You barely feel it on your wrist. The band is a bit on the cheap side. It's not even a full steel band but has rubber in the links. Otherwise, I have nothing to complain about especially at this price. It's a solid timekeeper from Timex.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent general purpose watch, February 21, 2011
By
Stanley E. Woodford (Clinton, UT USA)

I like this watch because it has a very nice display. As it turns out it is also light weight and comfortable. The face can scratch easily, but not bad for the price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent watch, January 11, 2011
By
abie915 (Kansas)

This is an excellent watch, and I've worn it everyday for the last ten years. The watch is built extremely tough, and has taken much abuse over the years but still works flawlessly. The face can get scratched though, and the silver paint on the watch wears off over time, exposing the white plastic underneath. The battery died out after four years or so, but was easily replaced.

It has several useful features such as a stopwatch and a countdown timer. The backlight also works beautifully, and lights up the entire dial evenly. For $30, I don't think you could do any better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent despite the relativley low cost, October 5, 2010
By
Richard D

I've had this watch for several days and am very happy with it. By comparison to another watch with an atomic-update feature, this Timex looses only a few seconds in several days. If you do buy one, toss the Instruction Manual away (way too small to use) and download the pdf Instruction Manual from the Timex website. I haven't worried yet about mastering the extra timers and alarms yet, so I can't comment on how easy or hard they are to use vs other watches. So far, I haven't had any problems some others have experienced with the band.

5.0 out of 5 stars Long lasting watch, June 3, 2010
By
AJB56

The watch has all the basic features you would need. The best part about the watch is that it lasts forever. Checkout reviews elsewhere, and you will see that some people have had these watches for 20 years or more. I have had mine since at least December 1999. It was a Christmas gift, I may have gotten a year or two before 1999. But, you get the idea. over 10 years later I have had to replace the band and battery one time each (both last year in 2009). The front of the watch has scrapes on it and some of the text has begun to rub off... but, it still works. I like the watch so much that I came here looking to see if I could get another one, I would put it in storage and have it just in case this one ever stops working. That probably won't happen for another 10 years though!

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this watch, April 15, 2010
By
C. G. WINDHAM (Oxford Florida)

I love this watch, this is my 4th one, in about 10 years.
water proof with the indiglow dial and the stop watch.
the band is great, it does not pull the hairs on your arm. Also the watch is thin and lays flat on your arm, NOT like the new models which are thick and tend to catch on things in the industrial workplace. It is a great design, I hope Timex continues to make this watch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great watch, March 4, 2010
By
Rick (Oklahoma, Usa)

I really like this watch a lot. I like it so much that this is the 4th one I have bought. When I replaced each watch, it was because the case was getting a little beat up (I am hard on watches). The batteries started showing signs of getting a little weak after about 3 to 4 years for each watch, which I think is pretty darn good. My favorite part of the watch is the watch band.

5.0 out of 5 stars Timex Atlantis, February 12, 2010
By
Nolan P. Critchlow "buggyman" (Utah)

This is the fourth of these watches I have owned. All were absolutely reliable and accurate. My work is hard on watches; the cases and bands take a beating, but the watches still run perfectly. I buy a new one when the face becomes unreadable. You can't beat the Atlantis for value and a dressier style than most inexpensive watches.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not so much, January 16, 2010
By
William J. Sutton (Houston, Texas United States)

I had this watch for less than two months. It kept nearly perfect time, it was good looking and very comfortable to wear. After about 4 weeks, I noticed a pin working loose from the band. I worked it back in multiple times and didn't think too much of it. In less than 8 weeks, the band separated and I had to send the watch back. My main reason for buying it was the hope that the band would last, so I'm very disappointed. I have no idea if my experience was unusual or not, but I've bought a more expensive watch as a result.

3.0 out of 5 stars Watch OK, Band not so much., December 11, 2009
By
Hoddy

I was really upset when the Timex watch I purchased in 1985, which I loved, developed a problem with the liquid crystal display. After considerable research, I settled on the Timex Men's Atlantis 100 as the most comparable replacement. It has all the functions of my original watch, but is a bit more complicated to use. However, the band which came with the watch fell apart within a week after I started wearing it. Fortunately, as noted in other reviews, the band can be replaced, so I did so with the original band from my old Timex; obviously they don't make them to last like they used to!

5.0 out of 5 stars Watch for son a success, October 1, 2009
By
Richard J. Erickson

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice watch WITH A STANDARD REPLACEABLE BAND !!, August 7, 2009
By
Donald Gillies "secretbearer" (San Diego, CA United States)

I've bought 2 Atlantis watches and 10 Ironman watches over the past 25 years. Lately I've been buying watches for both myself and my wife. When my wife's expensive ironman band failed, causing her watch face to disappear from her wrist forever, after ONLY THREE MONTHS - I started to reconsider my recent purchasing decisions!

THIS WATCH USES A STANDARD WATCH BAND. It has all the features of the Ironman, more or less. If you've been using these timexes for 25 years as i have, you know that eventually the band snaps and you want a replacement. Well, I won't fall for this B.S. from Timex, who has made all their Ironman models use custom nonstandard bands !! So, I am switching over to Atlantis ~ I already bought one for my wife, and I'm getting one for myself !!

This new model has the same user interface as an Ironman, with chronograph and 3 alarms, and the iron is probably the alltime best-selling digital chronograph (since about 1986.) I predict that this will become the new #1 seller in the Timex line of sports watches !!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Watch., July 16, 2009
By
Aaron L. Birenbaum (California)

I have to agree too that this watch is excellent. I've had mine for 8 years and like these other reviews, the plastic front is faded and cracked and the plastic straps have broken, but so be it cause the watch has been ticking for nearly ten years. The money has paid itself off so many times it's kind of ridiculous.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice everyday watch, June 8, 2009
By
Tim J. Patterson "tjp" (Phoenix AZ)

I like this watch a lot. This is my third of this model. It works well for me for everyday wear. I tend to be hard on watches. My previous models are all still keeping time with face is so scratched up they are hard to read.

I work in construction and tear watches up, this style diffinitly "Takes A Licken' and Keeps On Tickin'". Over the past years I've owned two and if anything happens to them I'll buy another. They are that good! If you need an all purpose tough watch this one's for you.

1.0 out of 5 stars WATCH BAND KEPT BREAKING, March 3, 2009
By
Ronald G. Morency

Timex used to make great watches and probably still do but I am not so sure as to why they are putting cheap wristbands on the watches. I wore the watch three times for a total time of about 15 minutes. The watch band kept coming apart. The pins that hold the band together kept coming out. I did notice the second time that it was not even the same pin but a pin in a different location. After the third time it broke I decided to send the watch back. I like my watchbands on the looser side so it was not tight on my wrist. The watch itself was good and I really liked the displays and lighting for nighttime. With this experience I will never buy another Timex.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great looking watch, durable, good price, March 2, 2009
By
Heliopolis

I really like the classic styling of this watch. I've had it for about 12 years now and it keeps time well with minimal battery use. It has 2 time zones, optional alarm and hourly beep, stopwatch with laps, countdown timer, and "indiglo" back light. Only down-side is the buttons are hard to push - they're little round metal cylinders about 1-2mm in diameter - pretty small & stiff to press, & you end up having to using your thumbnail.

4.0 out of 5 stars Timex Atlantis 100 Watch, February 19, 2009
By
Robert W. Winter "Bob W" (Atlanta, GA)

This is the 3rd one of these watches I have bought. I wear it for work and travel. The timer features are very helpful in keeping track of time on Jobs. When I travel I can always keep one time zone on my home and the other on the place I am visiting. I wear it every day and they last about 3 - 4 years, which is great considering the price of the watch. I have never had to buy a battery. I'll buy another one when I use this one up. You need to wash it when you work or your sweat will eat into the control buttons.

5.0 out of 5 stars TIMEX ALANTIS 100, December 2, 2008
By
R. Rockwell

I have now owned four of the atlantis 100 timex watches. Classy design with an easily adjustable band. My last one was lost outside in the winter snow. When I found it in the Spring, it was still running. I replace them whenever I have worn out the harware, but the watches never stop running. Easy to read displays, easy on the wallet. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars 14 Years Strong, December 2, 2008
By
Atlantis

I have had the Atlantis 100 for 14 years now. The silver coating flaked off long ago, along with the logo and button labels. It only beeps when you hit it on the table. I have gone through several bands since these resin bands don't last more than a year. This watch is really beat up. But the fact that it can take so much abuse and still function properly as it did for 14 years is a testament to its durability. This is a watch that you will wear for a long time.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor substitute for a great watch, August 1, 2008
By
Citris1 (Dania Beach, Florida USA)

For years I owned a Timex Alarm Chronograph watch. It was a great timepiece, all stainless steel; it took a lot of hard use and still looked good. When it finally broke down Timex couldn't fix it but only offered to replace it with a watch with fewer features.
The only watch Timex offered like it iwith the same features, alarm chronograph, timer etc. was the Atlantis 100. (I wouldn't be surprised if it has the same electronics inside.) However it is not nearly as good a watch. The body is made of plastic with a silver coating which wears off and looks shoddy. The LCD part is set deep into the watch, it is like looking into the bottom of a well, making the numbers hard to read. The clasp on the band has a way of becoming unhooked, just at the wrong times. I don't know why they stopped making the better product; I would buy it at event twice the original price.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not the quality it used to be...., April 24, 2008
By
G. Kauffman (Lakeland, FL United States)

This review is from: Timex Men's T77517 Atlantis 100 Stainless Steel Bracelet Watch (Watch)
I thought this watch would be of the same quality as it used to be. Several years ago I had the same identical watch and loved it. When it failed and I was in need of a replacement I thought I would purchase another just like it based on my previous experience. Now I find the case is plastic? or at least not the metal it used to be and the band is a very chincy thin tin-like metal and overall is quite cheap construction. I am truly disappointed in the product. I question if it will last very long. I guess you get what you pay for now days.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Workhorse, April 11, 2008
By
Mike M (East Coast, USA)

I used to need to buy a new watch every couple of years before I bought this one. Have had it for 6-7 years now and it's held up amazingly well. The battery died on me for the first time just recently. The straps have needed replacing every couple of years, but when that happens I just go to voguestrap.com and get new ones cheaply. The only drawback is that the face will easily scratch. It's a handsome, inexpensive and very reliable watch with many features that has become like a friend. I'll replace the battery rather than get a new one, even after all these years, as it's been so good to me.

4.0 out of 5 stars A reliable timepiece., March 25, 2008
By
Eric (Muskegon, MI)
I don't remember the exact age of my watch, but I think this watch is getting to be about 9 years old. It is on it's third battery. I thought a watch of such extreme age could no longer be water resistant, but it survived a trip thought the washing machine.

Unlike other guady sports watches, this model is relatively thin in depth and thus more confortable to wear.

The bad news about this watch is that the case will lose it's silver and the band will eventually fall apart. The good news is that you can buff off the rest of the silver, buy a leather watch band and the watch won't look too bad.

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT EVERYDAY WATCH, January 6, 2008
By
J. A. Farrell (USA)

This was a Christmas present for my husband. He already has this watch, but when I found it for less than 1/2 of the retail price, I purchased it as a backup because I knew if his died, I'd never find another one when he needed it. He uses this watch every single day of the year.

4.0 out of 5 stars Accurate watch but face scratches easily, August 16, 2007
By
T. Miller (Wilmington DE)

I have owned this model Timex for 4 years. Accuracy and features are great, and battery longevity is fantastic. The only problem I have with this and other Timex digitals owned in the past, is how easily the watch face scratches. So, it is the case features which brings my rating down to 4.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great watch, but flawed design stainless steel band, May 24, 2007
By
W. Oman (Walnut Creek, CA United States)

I have found this particular watch fantastic for over ten years. However, last year when the latest plastic band broke I bought the same style but with the stainless steel band. In the past tweleve months I have had to purchase 3 replacement watches because the pins holding the band's links together keep slipping out. The plastic bands seem to make me prown to getting a wrist rash, so I am afraid I will need to investigate Casio as an alternative as long as Timex continues to use weak pins!

5.0 out of 5 stars Long lasting and tough, April 29, 2007
By
T. Tong (Beaverton, OR)

I was surprised to find out that Timex still makes this watch! I have worn this watch every day for the past 9 years, and it's still running on the original battery. It has remained largely intact, only with minor chips and scratches. The face, or 'crystal' has a lot of minor scratches, but the numbers are still very clear to read. The silver paint on the body has started to wear off, as well as some of the lettering, but then again, it has far exceeded its lifetime. Definitely recommended for its price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Watch is fine, wrist band not so good, January 16, 2007

I bought this watch as a duplicate replacement for one my husband's been wearing for many years. Our only complaint is that the pins keep coming out of the wrist band! Not cool.

I think this is an excellent product. It performs a myriad of functions and is in a neat package, not gaudy or bulky. It is the third such watch I have purchased and worn out. They all lasted a long time, the metal strap broke long before the watch did.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best watch, September 10, 2006

Note: I get extremely attached to objects that I enjoy.

This is an excellant watch. It's simple, sleek looking, comfortable, and they last forever. Unfortunately, the above poster is correct; the plastic flakes and chips off and the rubber bands begin to break. I have had one of these for 7 years and it's still ticking away without any kind of maintaince.

5.0 out of 5 stars It replaced my $350 seiko, March 6, 2006

This is not a particularly pretty watch, but it is VERY accurate and has all the functions that I use daily. countdown timer, dual chronographs, water resistance, hourly beep, and two alarms. My $350 seiko watch broke, and I bought this as a "temporary"...I'm still wearing this one. I imagine (since the quality is about what you expect from a $30 watch) that I'll be replacing it about every two years...no problem. Wal-Mart sells them.

3.0 out of 5 stars A moderately good watch, July 12, 2005

For the price this is an excellent watch, but it is not a product for the person looking for a lifelong timepiece. I love the features. It's not easy to find a good looking 100% digital watch. However, after a few years (around 5) the color on the plastic around the face started to flake off and the rubber clasps began to break.
