No, I don't know the actual date-of-manufacture. Smile But I made the original Is Happy Day! post here on the Poor Man's Watch Forum on Saturday, 28 May 2005, so that's the date I claim.

I wear this one on leather for most of the year, and then switch to a NATO for the summer months. But this year, I decided to try something a bit different...

Yup, the Alpha Watch Co. Power Reserve GMT and/or 2nd Time Zone has "gone mesh"! WooHoo! WIS Honeymoon

This is the same Tungchoy bracelet which the Mondaine Big-Date GMT wore briefly and, while I loved that combo, I also loved it on the black NATO. So that's what it's wearing at the moment...

I actually tried this Alpha on the Staib mesh at one point, but that combo was less than optimum. For one thing, it barely fit at all. I am confused The endpieces of the Staib are slightly thicker, with the result that, when installed, they were actually in contact with the case. Eek! And it's a slightly thicker bracelet overall (3.2mm vs. 2.5mm), making the endpieces stand proud of the lugs. Thumbs down And, of course, having a $150 bracelet on a $60 watch offended me Inner Scotsman deeply Rolling on the floor laughing my a.. off, so it didn't last long and, indeed, I never even took photos.

No such concerns with the Tungchoy! Thumbs up!

This Alpha was my first "big watch" and remains one of my favorites to this day. As such, it's one of my most-worn watches..

..and despite a half-decade of use, it still looks good and runs flawlessly. I know some have had less than positive experiences with , and such things are bound to happen with any marque. But, to me, this watch is living proof that those folk who insist that all Alphas are disposable watches with an average lifespan of ~ 3 to 6 months.. well, let's just say they exaggerate a wee bit. Wink

Cheers!
